We signed former cornerback turned kicker Verner to a 5 year deal, changed his position back to corner. That's the only way I can justify how we got him so cheap.
So today should be a wild one too. Can't wait to see what happens.

Of all people, I can't believe your ripping me too. I'm just blown away that other than Sunny, no one is even a bit concerned with the alarming rate we're signing players. I like the aggressiveness but we need to slow the role a bit here. You have to be more selective with the FA pool.
we dont have draft picks. we have a roster assembled by 3 guys out of the league. we have new systems in place. i dont see the benefits of waiting for the top young talent to be signed. lovie and licht have been researching for a while. maybe what we are doing right now is being selective...as in selecting the guys we have targeted as good fits in our schemes!

You do realize that they are now able to contact soon to be FAs before FA officially opens, right?Looks to me like they had an initial wave of players that they had been in contact with for more than just one day and they had the offers ready to go. Now they are in the next step if their process which is interviewing a few more players who could potentially contribute and coukd be potential upgrades/replacements to what is currently on the roster.Your "slow it down" is just an overreaction to seeing 4 players being signed on day one. 2 of them are mid tier FAs on relatively small deals, which are the type of signings teams make all the time. Verner is a younger/cheaper/C2 corner who is replacing Revis' roster spot. So really the only signing that is risky and an attempt at a significant upgrade is Johnson. There are things to like about Johnson of you look deeper than just a sack number. His cap # is high, but that is the market for DEs and we all know that we needed one signing to address this area of the DL, and they will probably take another pass rusher in the first 3 rounds. The fact that they are kicking the tires on several other players isnjust doing due diligence. Our OL has sucked for years. If there are young vet FAs who could potentially help, then younhave tonat least bring them in and see what they are about.Cap wise, even if EDS, Collins, Tillman, and one other FA are signed, the Bucs will still have $10+ mil left. If a C or OT are signed, then Penn or Zut will be cut. You also have to figure that with Myers brought in, that means that either Crabtree or Stocker will be bounced...which will balance out that salary. In future years: Goldson will probably be bounced next offseason, McCoy's cap # will most likely stay around the same $ amount. Nicks and Mike Williams are also probable cap casualties over the next two seasons.

The Bucs are not making desperation FA signings and overpaying players in doing so. The one key player the Bucs had to have was Michael Johnson and they paid a lot for him but not an astronomical price. Every other signing has been for players just hitting their prime at at very reasonable contracts. This is what Licht does and I am ecstatic. We have to rebuild this roster and we need FA to do it. Look at guys like Collins and EDS. It wont break the bank to sign these two players and they have position versatility and are still young players. Yes, we will also probably add some older vets but not at a ridiculous contract. Thank God we finally have some real personnel guys running the show!!
