That's fan thinking, not front office thinking. He's too cheap to cut. Dominik said he was injured all this past year. It seems like he didn't have a good relationship with Schiano. For all of those reasons, he's going to get an opportunity to learn under the new staff. I'm pretty sure the only way he is not a Buc next year is if another team is willing to give up an asset for him or if he's still injured. If he's healthy, he's going to be on the roster.
Holding onto a bust for too long in hopes they will turn it around or in fear of the player doing well somewhere else... Is what hurts a franchise and gets people fired. If a guy can't prove he belongs in three seasons, there are a few thousand other guys chomping at the bit for a chance. Cut ties and keep moving forward or become stagnant and fail.
I don't see any reason to get rid of Bowers and I doubt it happens. I think he gets a chance to show improvement under the new staff, hopefully injury-free, and because he doesn't cost much money.
You don't see a reason? The guy has had three years and 39 games and he has been a complete bust. How many years do you give a guy before you move on? I think he will get a chance to prove himself in camp, but I don't expect him to make the roster.
Except that 3 years is really like 1 1/2 when factoring his injuries. He still has high upside, he still won't cost much of anything and there isn't exactly anyone lighting the practice field on fire behind him

That's right Bowers... Shlt or get off the pot!

He will cost $1.2M to keep. I gotta believe there is someone out there we could get for $1.2M that would actually contribute in some way. Someone that would stop blaming other people for his short comings. Someone who would show up to camp in shape. Someone who would make the most of their opportunity. Someone that actually makes this team better in some way.

Shiddddd.. For $1.2M I could be that guy.
Lol. ME TOO!!!!

This is just nonsense. Keeping Josh Freeman for 10mm per year instead of moving on and taking a Russell Wilson or trading him before last season leads to stagnation or failure. Paying less than a million for Da'Quan Bowers to be a third or fourth DE isn't going to impact you at all. It's a far larger price to pay to cut a cheap, depth player and have them excel elsewhere than it is to have him fill out one of the last 10 spots on the roster, especially with a brand new coaching staff coming in.Plenty of teams have players towards the end of their roster that will never see more than a handful of snaps in a season.
Your Freeman analogy is the same exact thing, but you condone it on a smaller scale? Makes no sense. If the guy has has three years, not done anything, and shows up to camp out of shape.....you go give some other pass rusher that $1.2M. Period. 34 tackles and 5 sacks in 39 games just don't cut it. We didn't resign Bennett for a reason....and that reason was not Daniel Teo'fukin Neisam. Bowers was handed a golden opportunity last year with every chance to succeed and he shat on it. It's year three, you've been a massive disappointment, here is the starting LDE job. It's yours....run with it. And he completely blew it. I don't wanna hear that he didn't like Schiano. I don't give two sh!ts. I bet most the players didn't like Schiano. Enough excuses. The guy got some money and has been an unmotivated slug. Give his job to someone that deserves it.
He's not 1.2 million, he's less than a million according to everything I've seen.I'm not sure how you can't see the difference between investing a lot of money in a starting QB that you stick with vs keeping a guy for less than a million that is your fourth DE. If you replaced Brady with Freeman, would they be a playoff team right now? How about if you replaced Jake Bequette with Bowers? Bowers doesn't have to live up to his pre-draft billing to be kept, but it certainly would be nice. He's just cheap depth. Hopefully the coaches can get more out of him than that.Bennett is irrelevant to what they do with Bowers today.
This site is usually spot on. It says $1.2M http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/daquan-bowers/
Ah, yeah, the bonus is irrelevant, though, because it has to get paid whether he's on the team or not.
I'd say Bennett is very relevant. We let him walk and handed the job to Bowers and it was a huge fuggin mistake by the last regime. We now have a chance to correct that mistake by bringing back Bennett and cutting/trading Bowers. Why not do that?
They're two entirely separate things. If they want to bring back Bennett, bring back Bennett.
You don't have to cut Bowers to sign a FA DE
