There's plenty of players that could change this - Qb John Wolford, Hb's Chase Edmunds/Ramon Jefferson, Wr Rakim Jarrett, OL Justin Skule, Silas Dzansi, Luke Haggard, Brandon Walton, DL William Gholston, Anthony Nelson, Db's Rashad Wisdom, Marcus Banks. As Coach Bowles says "I'll just keep the best of the best."
Maybe - without doubt, the depth chart as I have it is subjective. There's some hard choices. As of last night, i decided to keep Rakim Jarrett(and Trey Palmer and Kameron Johnson) over . . . drumroll . . .Sterling Sheppard. Sterling Sheppard is tearing up training camp, but so are the young guys. Bucs can put him on the practice squad if he realy wants to stay with the Bucs. I prefer to keep youth where I can. If youth are playing well, I'd think they have more upside. I'm a Sterling Sheppard fan. I wanted him in the draft like everyone else. But, I just think getting young and avoiding the wear and tear is better than risking injury with an older player. And, I say the same thing with Chase Edmunds.
Chase Edmunds has great pass protection, and can scoot . . . when healthy. But, I think the Bucs have a case of another Giovani Bernard. We enjoyed him from afar, and wished we had him when he was young and not so injury prone due to so much football. He just got hurt. Chase Edmunds keeps getting hurt. He got hurt last season; he's hurt in training camp. But, kind of miraculously have a slew of youngens at hb all of a sudden. I'd keep the youth if they are performing well and show upside.
I kept Lorenz Metz over a bunch of other Ol that could have made the team. Lorenz doesn't count against the 53. By keeping him, I'm able to keep 6 wr's, 4 te's, Judge Culpepper "and" Mike Green, J.J. Russell "and" Kalen Deloach, and Tyrek Funderburk. If I hadn't kept Lorenz, I would of had to let someone go.
I want to keep Kalen Deloach to have another speedy coverage linebacker(who can also passrush, and tackle) for when/if Lavonte David retires or goes somewhere else next year. I want to keep J.J. Russell because . . . drumroll . . . K.J. Britt might be a little bit injury prone. He's had some little injuries here and there. I'd like another bigger body linebacker than just the smaller Lavonte David typles.
There's all kinds more stuff to say about why I chose my depth chart the way I did. For instance, Kameron Johnson. I actually haven't seen enough of him; he's a undrafted, and I'm kind of listening to the grapevine here.
There's no doubt Coach Bowles knows about things and sees things from the inside that I don't know. This depth chart shows, I think, the potential of the roster to be good no matter who we keep!
Would have to think Nelson and gholston make the team but you are thinking outside the box which is good and surprise cuts do happen
Yea, I know Nelson and Gholston are hard cuts to make. This is one of the reasonings I couldn't write down. There's lots of reasonings I can't write down all at once. Here, my reasonings for letting them go is we have Logan Hall, and I'd like to keep both J.J. Russell and Kalen Deloach, and Tyrek Funderburk(and 6 Wrs, and 4 Te's). Logan Hall serves the same function as Nelson and Gholston. It's time to let the youth take over.
As for the QB, if you are going with 2 QBs then Wolford is the one who stays because he can be here long term and Trask will not be here after this year.
I predicted early in the offseason that Trask would probably be traded on or before draft day and at the least he won't be on the opening day roster. I made that projection because I felt the Bucs were building for 2025. It seems now that the Bucs are making a serious run in 2024, but still the fact remains that Trask will not be here in 2025 so why should Coen spend time developing him and teaching the system to him?
Coen is obviously still in the assessment phase in this early stage of the preseason, but Wolford can stand by Coen's side for years to come getting used to the system. Trask won't even be here next offseason to run plays in the OTAs or any of that. The only reason to keep Trask around is insurance for a Mayfield injury, and that may be a good enough reason to keep him around.... or not.
But I guarantee Wolford won't be going anywhere.
I think Ko Kieft will be waving Bye Bye. It's great to have a blocking TE, but you have to at least be able to catch one that hits you right in the mitts. The Kieft experiment didn't work out. Also, I don't think Sean Tucker makes it through. If Edmonds doesn't stay healthy or make the grade for whatever reason, they'll bring in another veteran from the scrap heap. They need veteran depth for pass blocking if nothing else.
Yes, but as a team who is putting itself out there as a contender they can't do what they did last year and keep eight draftees and UDFAs or whatever it was. They have to keep the veteran presence of a Gholston, Nelson and Edmonds. That's my opinion, but Bowles hasn't asked me yet.Yea, I know Nelson and Gholston are hard cuts to make. thats an interesting take.
I would imagine those types of decisions are often tough to make, veteran leadership versus youth.
"Sua Opeta, who was battling Ben Bredeson for the right to start at left guard, suffered a torn ACL during practice and is out for the year"

I am not sure that the team keeps Greene and Culpepper while cutting Gholston. Only way Gholston is cut is if Hall shows he is beasting out there.

Inclined to agree.
Gholston's role on the team goes beyond his on-field production
Plus, Gholston can kick inside and play Nose tackle in a pinch and he has special teams experience. It is not simple to replace him.
Hall has to really bring up his game to be more aggressive out there with his frame and length like Gholston does.

Wolford was cut.
Presenting opinions as fact continues to be an issue. There is still a possibility he returns, but lolz @ "I guarantee Wolford won't be going anywhere"
