Nice breakdown (not a Pewter Report video, but with PR’s own @JoshQueipo) in the video below - regarding how the critical pieces get re-signed.

I think it speaks directly to the concerns in this thread…

It’s a longer video, but if you want to save some time, and zero in on the nuts & bolts of critical targets and feasibility analysis on how the Bucs can sign each, fast forward to about the 23:36 minute mark.

Good job Josh!

With Barton becoming a more talked about candidate for the Bucs first round pick, I found this piece interesting:

If Jackson Powers-Johnson is off the board at No. 26, the Bucs could look at drafting another versatile center prospect. Two that Daniel Jeremiah discussed in addition to Powers-Johnson are Duke’s Graham Barton and West Virginia’s Zach Frazier.

“I think the top three centers are guys that fit that [versatile] mold as well with Jackson Powers-Johnson, Graham Barton from Duke, Zach Frazier from West Virginia. All of those guys can move you at the point of attack and are all over 310 pounds and they’re athletic.”

Barton was Pewter Report’s first-round pick in our latest Bucs mock draft, and there is a lot of appeal in taking him.

“He started a ton of games,” Jeremiah said about Barton. “He’s played center. I think his ultimate best position is going to be at center. He can play anywhere. Obviously recently having played left tackle. I’ll end up having Jackson Powers-Johnson over Graham Barton, but I really like Graham Barton too and I like Zach Frazier. I think all three of those guys would be plug-and-play guys.”

I thought he was going to transition to OG, but looking like he'll be playing C.

So, if this is the case, I wonder if they plan on looking for LG in free agency or address it in the draft as well.

I like Barton, but would he be immediately better than Hainsey?

“Buccaneers are releasing two-time Pro Bowl outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett, per sources.

Barrett had a $15.04 million option bonus due next month. Instead of collecting it, he now will become a free agent.”

Per Rapoport and Schefter

It will free up about $5M in cap for 2024 (enough to sign the draft class).

Dead cap is $9.3m this year and $17.4m in 2025.

Which will make next off-season interesting if Godwin leaves, as that’ll be an additional $19M dead cap hit to 2025.

Tough year for Shaq, great production for most of his tenure with the Bucs, hopefully he will be able to get fully back on track after fully recovering from that injury. Good luck to him, you’re right, necessary financial move - but it will have out-year ramifications.

This now magnifies the need to draft the best available edge rusher with our first pick. I mean, who do we have to bookend with YaYa?

Hopefully, someone like Chop Robinson is there at #26.

If not go for a CB/Db that Bowles can leverage better secondary help from, while also utilizing in a pressure package.

….but, I’d also be just as happy if JPJ somehow falls to #26..

I think it’s either EDGE or CB.

Simply because I think Davis gets traded or released soon.

I would also expect Gage’s release to be announced soon.

Yeah, it looks like there's no difference in the numbers between a pre or post 6/1 designation.

A little over $11M in cap relief for 2024.

Brandon Thorn has some really good content up on Twitter, regarding Barton and Frazier (my favorite C).

“Licht says they’ve started talks with Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans, Antoine Winfield Jr., Tristan Wirfs and Lavonte David. He likes where they are”

“Licht says Mike Evans is an unprecedented player and they want him to be a Buc for life. They might have to strain a little bit to make it happen but he knows Evans wants to stay a Buc.”
