Similar thoughts on Sanders considering how hard NE went after him last year. @JC5100.....Not sure Oher will command as big of a contract as some think. He hasn't put a whole lot of good tape out there, and may just benefit from a change of scenery and coaching. Maybe he signs a 1-2 yr "prove-it" deal. @STRICK-9.... Like all 3 FA's, but not sure any will come cheaply. Allen may just want one last big payday (wherever it is), Mack is going to get top-5 C money either from the Browns or someone else, and McCown (obviously it's not certain) looks to be in line for solid starter money from a QB needy team like Minn., Oak. Where I can see Melton being attractive to most coming from Chicago and having played underneath Lovie before he's a three technique. Something we already have in McCoy. Not to mention the money he's going to demand from the open market and the fact he's coming back from an ACL injury I'd stay far away from him.
Gives you a backup to McCoy (who has had an injury history) and really - the whole 3-tech/1-tech difference can get overblown. Do you think teams were double teamign our 1-tech or our 3-tech last year? Another "3-tech" might have a bigger impact on freeing up McCoy than a more traditional nose tackle.

Considering the Raiders have $66 million in cap room (and teams need to start preparing now to avoid the salary cap penalties for being near the floor) you could very well be right.
We can probably close this thread now. With the new cap there wont be such a thing as "budget friendly" free agents this year. A lot of middle of the road talent is going to get paid.

To the bolded. We aren't getting jack squat for Joseph, but Penn is a solid LT with a very affordable contract. I'll bet you we could get a 3rd or 4th for him if it comes to that. As far as Melton being good depth at UT, that might be true but he is going to cost waaaay too much to play NT and provide depth at UT. I'm all for drafting Aaron Donald to fill that role because he would be cheap for 5 years and I think he can play all over the line.....but spending $8M+ per year on a guy like Melton to fill that role isn't really feasible when we are paying McCoy $12M+ per year. McCoy is getting his new contract this year and we would have $20M+ /yr locked up in our DTs for the next 5 years. That doesn't seem sustainable.

I could be wrong about Penn but I'd be surprised if we got anything more than a 6th or a 7th. He's over 30 and overweight, not to mention he has a decent sized contract (not sure about guarantees and such though).If Metlon signs for that much, you are completely right. I'd expect it to be approximately half that though coming off an ACL injury. I could be totally wrong.If we're drafting Donald, we'd better have traded back though.
We'll see with Melton. I'd could be wrong. He is coming off injury, but in 2011 and 2012 he was considered one of the best UTs in the league and he just turned 27. I think he's gonna get paid.

Oher is going to get a huge contract, similar to Gosder Cherilus did last year. Schaub has one of the worst arms in the league, he's done. Pick 6 city.

Even with the forecasted cap increase, I still don't think you're going to see all the teams massively overpaying for mediocre talent. Sure it happens a few times each year, but would be surprised if it became the norm. Would expect to see guys coming off injury or a down year to do 1-2 yr deals hoping to rebuild their value and get paid when the cap's at $150 million. Case in point is Jeremy Maclin. All he would do evidently was a one year deal. Think the bigger repercussion you'll see from the increase is teams being able to keep their core players instead of losing them due to cap constraints.
