You both are silly. We're talking about two different times in football and the fact that marty's last season was good (who gives a crap about how he started, we're talking about the finished version of a 4 and 12 coach), it doesn't really match up....it's like if Ali and....peter mcneily fought. Two different times, but it's obvious who is better.
Mentioning Schiano in the same sentence as Schottenheimer is an insult to Marty.
One doesn't simply mention schiano. The dark sith lord has eyes and ears everywhere.Actually, there are a lot of parallels to darth vader and schiano. All these guys around him to serve him, a whole freaking death star full of talent, and only in the second episode would he come back weaker.
Marty only had two losing seasons in over 20 years of coaching NFL football. It was very obvious that he was the best man for this job. It may be too late now. I figured if we had hired him 2 years ago he would have probably had 4-5 years left. That would mean that if we hired him today, he would only have maybe 2-3 years left. But talk about a guy who has "built programs". Marty went and won where other coaches could not. And I'm not talking about a smoke and mirrors resume that Schiano has. Marty actually DID it. All Schiano did was recruit Florida and schedule weak opponents.
Marty should have been the hire and not Schiano. Well over half of us here were hoping for him. Trestman was a close second IIRC
Tampa needs to hire AJ Smith as the GM, can Dominick.
I sure wish Tampa had been Marty's 5th team. That is the kind of head coach I want to root for.
"There's a gleeeeeam, men"
Skip, when I saw that video awhile back, I thought it was hysterical. He really, really say gleeeeeeam funny.
Lost 6 playoff games in a row. 5-13 total. As soon as he was fired San Diego won 3 playoff games in 2 years.
Marty in a GM role would be alright, I think. The guy has an eye for talent. But as a coach roaming the sidelines every Sunday? No thanks, I'll pass. He had far too much talent on his teams to consistently underachieve in the playoffs like he did every year... "Marty-ball....."
Getting to the playoffs. Do you guys hear yourselves?Just getting there would be a vast improvement from what we have now. As of right now, there is no hope of even that happening.Baby steps. We aren't, and wouldn't win a sb with any coach right away anyway. Reid or chip would've been the best choice for that, but that's now another few missed opportunities our team can hold high. And that's still if we're just talking playoffs.

Fair and valid, but how many "one-and-done's" in the playoffs would it take for all the fans to get sick and tired of that and demand another HC change? If everyone is willing to agree at this point that "Schiano is what he is, a sub .500 coach" let's call Marty out for what he is, "A guy that can't get it done in the postseason with an ultra-conservative approach regarding his gameplan on Sundays". Too much talent on his rosters to bottom out in the playoffs like he did, year after year.
Wow! What a bunch of absolute statements.Guarantee. Everyone. All. Those words ruin the value of your statement in the context used. That's just part of the "absolute" words or statements used in this thread. That demeaned what was supposedly meant.

Great coach back in the day, but IIRC, he is 76 or there abouts? This reminds me of George Allen, who kept getting HC gigs, way after his shelf life was past.
