Real test for the offensive line this week   by Gil Arcia August 19, 201414789935639_4273Fc7736_Z.jpgBuffalo Bills defensive linemen Kyle Williams (95), Marcell Dareus (99) and Mario Williams (94)  The Buccaneers offensive line has been the center of criticism this preseason. If there was ever a better time to silence critics heading into the regular season, it would be this week against the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo has all four linemen returning from 2013 who were part of a defense that recorded one of the highest sack totals in the league last season with 57. It’s a challenge that is needed as head coach Lovie Smith says it will help his offensive line prepare for the season.“They have legitimate rushers, of course, inside [Kyle] Williams and [Marcell] Dareus,” Smith said. “Of course, Mario [Williams] outside. But they can rush the passer. Simple as that. They don’t need a blitz. They can rush and get to the passer with their four guys, and we’re trying to get to that point. So it will be a big challenge for our offensive line this week. And also of course, on the road. This is what we need to get ready for the football season.”Tampa Bay’s pass protection played better collectively this past Saturday against the Miami Dolphins. There is still room for improvement but it was good to see the unit give time for their quarterbacks which allowed for Josh McCown‘s touchdown strike to Vincent Jackson in the back of the end zone.Saturday’s game in Buffalo will give the Bucs’ projected starters some much needed playing time. It appears that the guard positions will feature Oniel Cousins on the left and Patrick Omameh on the right for a consecutive week. It’ll be a good experience not only for Cousins and Omameh but also for the entire offensive front. And an experience the coaching staff hopes will improve the line.link
