QB guru: Jameis Winston will play in Super Bowl within five yearsBy Ryan Wilson | CBSSports.comApril 22, 2015  Guru_Zpsqr905Xa1.PngJameis Winston is just 'scratching the surface of his talent, according to his QB guru. (USATSI)George Whitfield knows a legit NFL quarterback when he sees one. He's worked with Ben Roethlisberger, Andrew Luck and Cam Newton among others, and he's currently doing the same for Jameis Winston, the likely first-overall pick in next week's NFL Draft.CBSSports.com's Dennis Dodd profiles the man behind the Whitfield Quarterback Academy in this excellent long-form read, and CBSSports.com's Jamey Eisenberg got Whitfield to talk about what we can expect from Winston in the NFL. "I think he'll have played in, if not won, a Super Bowl," Whitfield said when asked where he thought Winston would be in five years. "I don't think that's a stretch. Just when you look at what he brings to the table, really he's just scratching the surface. I think people look at him so much, so often, with the other quarterbacks in this draft class, and make the comparison, but you've got to remember, his entire life, he's only been a quarterback half the year."This is his first year, since I think he was 6 years old, that he's not on the baseball diamond. There's a lot to be said for that. We're just now seeing what he can possibly become. So I think that's going to bode well for him. The organization and coach Lovie Smith have had an incredible amount of success, and that's a really talented roster down there, and there's a lot be excited about down there if that's where he winds up."So how does Winston compare to Newton and Luck?"Well, he's a different animal in some ways and in a lot of ways he's similar to those guys," Whitfield said. "Different in terms of the athlete. All those guys come in with different levels of athleticism and just types of athleticism they bring to the table. But he comes in accomplished. Incredibly confident. And he's a well-rounded passer. He can get you all the way down the field on an 80-yard drive consistently, he can make play in the clutch, and he just has an overall acumen for the game that I would compare to some of the top guys playing today."Let's say you want your kid to be an NFL quarterback. How early should he begin training?"Generally, we've always put the age around third grade," Whitfield said. "And that's just to me. Some people could maybe go younger than that. We get emails from families and proud papas from kids as young as four years old and they want their son to start driving into the quarterback world. But I think third grade, for us, it's that perfect age. They're independent enough, they have a strong enough attention span and they're playing other sports, so it's not like it's their first foray into athletics. For us, that's been a comfortable age to begin."
