But if you look at the top 20 or so WRs in the NFL 3/4 of them are tall guys. Can't be a coincidence.
Watkins is only about 20 pounds lighter than the Mancrush Goldson wants at TE , but Watkins is too small. Lol.

I agree that the new prototypical WR is tall and fast. Evans is not fast. If I have to pick between 6'1 with 4.3 speed and 6'4 with 4.6 (especially considering we have 2 tall guys already)...then I am going with speed.I would be really curious to look back at who was banging the drum for Tavon Austin last year, but killing Sammy Watkins this year.
And Julio Jones is only 6'3" if you round up. Dollars to donuts that his team's media guide will list Watkins as being 6'2" next year.

Not true. Look at the top 20 most productive WRs from last year. http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?archive=false&conference=null&statisticPositionCategory=WIDE_RECEIVER&season=2013&seasonType=REG&experience=&tabSeq=1&qualified=true&Submit=Go Pierre Garcon 6'0"Antonio Brown 5'10"Julian Edelman 5'10"Kendall Wright 5'10"Anquan Boldin 6'0"Harry Douglas 6'0"TY Hilton is 5'9"Desean Jackson 5'10"That is 8 of the top 20 that are 6ft or less. Almost half. Most of them are 6ft even or less. So that is a total of 35 guys out of the top 50 WRs that are not 6'3" or taller. The truth is that the 6'5" great receivers are the rarity and everyone is obsessed with finding one.....which causes a lot of mediocre receivers to go early simply because they are tall. It really isn't an important attribute for a receiver. It never has been. Above average height is nothing more than a nice bonus.
Good, we can cut that bum Mike WIlliams
I'd be shocked if Watkins runs 4.3. More of a 4.45 guy. That being said, he's a great player and I'm not a fan of Evans.

He was running under 4.3 "unofficial" times over the past year. I know those sometimes get skewed, but I would be shocked if his combine numbers were over 4.4
My top three things in a great receiver. 1. Great hands2. Quickness to separate3. Route runningIf I kept going, being 6'3" or taller would not be in the top 10.
Chicago Bears scouts must be disagreeing with your top 10 WR traits list. I would not put great hands as number 1 over those other 2. Hands should be a given as an NFL receiver. I wouldnt really worry about hands unless a player specifically has bad hands, but most decent NFL WR prospects should pretty much have great hands. Speed and separation would be more important to me because if the receiver is open I would be shocked if receiver then drops the ball, especially with the gloves. Unless that receiver is specifically known to have bad hands.. Speed and separation also helps your QB out by giving him a quick and easy decision. If the receiver is covered well on an intermediate route the QB has to think about it first, possibly has to decide if he should throw or look else where, and if does decide to make the throw he'll have to even more accurate with it.

no, those numbers almost always get skewed all the way from highschool to the pros. I only go by NFL combine where they are all being timed by the same system at the same place. and usually where they all run a lot slower than previously reported.Watkins was not running under 4.4 type of speed this season, and what concerned me was i thought he looked faster as a freshman. Judging by his highshool senior year 100m times tho, I would say that he is/was capable of being a 4.3 guy but thats not what he looked like this year. However its possible he was playing banged up like he suggests in this article http://www.thestate.com/2014/02/16/3272187/clemsons-sammy-watkins-says-hell.html That would also support my claim that he was faster as a freshman. He ran 10.5 100m times as a highschool senior which showed in his first college season. He was not tht fast this last year, but perhaps he is again. We shall see

Absolutely...and if Evans comes out and runs a 4.5 (which I dont think he will) that would possibly change my opinion about him as a player (though I wouldnt want him at 7 either way). Ive seen Sammy run in person. It was a couple years ago, but he was every bit a 4.3 guy when I did. Bulking up/injury could have made him play slower this year, but then that just makes me laugh at Ohio St even more lol.
I'm very much in the pro-Watkins camp, but I'd be fairly suprised if he runs a sub-4.4. Shocked if his time goes significantly below that mark.

You are using the total receptions data. Switch to either total yards or total TDs or yards per game and you will see the difference. Your top 50 data further clarifies the point. The further down the list you go, the more short receivers you will find. :oBut the qualifier is that they are 6'3" or taller, or they have elite timed speed. Using that criteria, Dez Bryant is the only guy who doesn't have one or the other and still shows up in the top of the rankings and he is 6'2". If a player has all the skills and is 6'2" i would consider an exemption.
Just what I wanted for Christmas...another prototypical NFL receiver. If we are even thinking WR in the 1st it needs to be Watkins.
Fixed. Watkins is a midget slot possession WR compared to Evans. Evans and VJax could be like Marshall and Jeffery in Chicago. I would not complain about having the best pass catching duo in the NFL. Watkins is a great college player, no doubt but this is a man's game and the modern prototypical is not 6'1".He is 6'3" or taller. Or else he has some kind of elite timed speed. In the whole top 20 last year there was one guy who didn't meet the criteria. Wes Welker and he had Peyton Manning throwing him the ball. In today's world I would never draft a WR under 6'3" in the 1st round at all unless at the very end of the 1st. I have done enough research on this to know that the percentages say that a 6'1" WR without elite timed speed has a miniscule chance of being one of the best. I'm not saying that Watkins won't be great I'm just saying that for me the risk that the player wont be one of the best at his position with the no.7 overall pick is astronomical on a sub 6'1" WR.
So 6'1 is a midget now? What about the two other tall WRs we have? While I wouldnt draft Ammendola in the 1st, there is nothing wrong with 6'1" at WR considering its still taller than 90% of the CBs in the NFL. I would take Watkins speed over Evans height any day of the week.So you wouldnt take any of these guys?Antonio BrownPierre GarconDeSean JacksonTorrey SmithVictor Cruz
With the no.7 overall pick? Is this a serious question?

I wasn't an Austin fan. He was a 4th round pick in my book. Return guy, not much production, and injured. Exactly what I thought he would be.
