We run a 4-3 with a defensive minded head coach that has repeatedly shown that he values pass rushing D-line over all else......and Donald appears to be Geno Atkins 2.0.......but we don't have a realistic chance of drafting him? I'm not buying it. I'd bet $$$ he is one of the top 5 players on our board and Lovie isn't a short sighted guy that will let need dictate a top 10 pick.

I agree. We should lock up Donald while we can. As far as some of the remaining holes, I wouldn't mind waiting to fill them next year if it meant we got a player like Donald to line up next to McCoy.

he probably wont be. i dont know if the Bucs have ever drafted the guy I originally wanted. but even the fans who dont want him drafted by us think he'll be a superstar...so hes a great pick.a pessimistic scenario - we re-sign mccoy to another 4-5 year contract. donald is just hitting his second contract when mccoy is probably over the hill. we have a replacement at UT and dont have to overpay to keep an aging star. UT is probably the most important position in lovies defense and donald all but secures us a top UT for the next decade.
Quickest way to Cam/Brees/Ryan is through the middle of the line. McCoy and Donald on the either sides of their center would give OCs nightmares.

All true. Plus Lovie hasn't used a typical UT/NT in the past. He has always tried to have two pass rushing DTs. Look at 2006 when they went to the Super Bowl with a great defense. They had Tommie Harris and Israel Idonije at DT. They also had Tank Johnson as depth and they drafted a DT in the 3rd round that year even though it was their 2nd pick because they had no 1st round pick that year. Infact, if you go look at their drafts in Chicago you'll see that they took a pass rushing DT in the first three rounds in just about every draft. Lovie loves pass rushing DTs.

I think this is a common train of thought but it doesn't make sense to me. To me there are two distinct tiers from roughly 1-5 and then from 6-12, not precisely but around that depending on who you talk to. Donald is absolutely in that 6-12 tier. If we can't get Watkins, Mack, or Matthews, then why wouldn't we take Donald. He is equal to Evans value-wise and we can easily get a very good WR later in the draft. We can't be beholden to "needs" at the top of the draft. That's how you end up with Gaines Adams.
