Think about it this way, how many NFL players would you compare Donald to? Again, I like Donald but there is risk with him because he doesn't fit the prototype. Same with Manziel. Where with someone like Evans, he IS the prototype.

who is the prototype?Would john randle be a favorable comparison?

The thing is, Donald's size is very comparable to Sapp, Atkins, and Randle....and they are the prototypical UT....and they were all considered "undersized" because apparently nobody in the NFL ever learns. Sapp was 6'1 1/2"  285lbs at the combine.Atkins was 6'1 3/8" 293lbs at the combine.Randle was 6'1"  247lbs as a rookie and was last listed as 287lbs in his final year.

No,  it wouldn't be hellish Finky. Donald would just get swallowed up in a double, same way McDonald will , as McCoy does his thing. They'll be no noticeable difference. Same way there was no noticeable difference when Booger got hurt and we won the Superbowl with chartric Darby.Look up the Under alignment. Understand why the 3 tech is important in the pass rush and the nose is nothing but a space eater.

They are going to double Donald or McCoy or Johnson or all?And clay gets freed up for his one v one which is ideal. Double the rook and let McCoy free!  Not.

And Donald is explosive like genny cream ale diarrhea. He lines up and they double him, he has a good chance of shooting through as a result of his leverage and takeoff. I would love this kid as a Buc.Wouldn't hurt my feelings at all.

Only one of those players is active and the oldest one came into the league 25 years ago. Donald may be great, but it's very sketchy when you can't find hardly any active players who are nearly identical physically. With the other prospects, you can. Donald is an outlier.

So the three greatest 3 tech's in the history of the NFL being near identical size to Donald doesn't count because 2 of them entered the league in the 90s? and only one is active and great today? Do you realize how weak that argument is?

So why aren't there other players who are great interior defenders that are 6' 0" 285 lbs? It's not common. If that's how one great player every 10 years is, why aren't there more? You guys can have your man rushes all you want and I'm not saying Donald sucks, but he's going against the grain. That's a fact. People in basketball refer to the Charles Barkley rule. Yes there's one hall of fame power forward rebounding machine who was 6'4" but do you want to be the guy who tried to find the next one?

You're getting way too caught up on an inch/inch and half of height, IMO, FRG.

I guess we just see things differently. This guy isn't being compared to Atkins, Sapp, and Randle because of size alone. He looks just like them in his college game footage. He dominated college football and won every possible award short of the Heisman. He dominated the best of the best at the Senior Bowl. He put up LB numbers at the combine. The guy is a freak. And on top of all that he is the same size as the three best 3 techs in NFL history. A dominant 6'1" 290lbs 3 tech is very rare indeed, but that is the prototype. You know what is even more rare? A 6'4" 300lbs+ dominant 3 tech. McCoy, Suh, and Darius are very good....but they aren't on the same level as the smaller prototypical guys. The leverage of being shorter is obviously one of the attributes needed to be one of the GOAT. At least it seems obvious to me.

Research the Under alignment . Let me know when you figure it out. Picture3.Png4-3_Under_Medium_Zps02161F87.JpgTell us how you plan to double McCoy out of this , after nose engages the center . By the time the center gets there McCoy will be in the backfield and the center would have had to  leave a huge gap in the middle of the field where a blizter could come unabated. Center has no choice but to block the nose, and the tackle has to block the end. Boid loses. Do your homework , son.

The DEs are going to see 1 on 1's an overwhelming majority of the plays, regardless of who is in the middle. OGs dont help OTs in pass pro, unless the DE stunts underneath.

The way I see things is the O-line, to be effective, has to work as one unit. They have to create a "U" shaped wall that forms a pocket for the QB to operate in. If there is a weak link in the O-line and one defender comes flying through, then the whole thing falls apart. With that in mind, you put Aaron Donald and Gerald McCoy side by side in the middle and there isn't a LG/C/RG combo in the league that can stop that. The front of that "U" wall gets pushed in or penetrated and everything goes to sh!t in a hurry for the offense. You can talk about different alignments or label our DTs as UT and NT even though Lovie has always used two pass rushing DTs.....but none of that matters when the ball is snapped and the QB immediately has Donald or McCoy in their face, or have their Center stepping on their toes because he's been over powered and thrown back.  Especially when you have a speed rusher like Michael Johnson looping around the outside to blast you when you can't step up into the pocket. It's a recipe for dominance and no talk of scheme or alignment or labeling is going to change the reality on the field. In Buffalo last year, they ran a hybrid that uses both 3-4 and 4-3 philosophies. Kyle Williams had 10.5 sacks as the "NT" and Marcell Dareus had 7.5 sacks as the "UT". Their defense finished top 10 and they were 2nd in sacks with 57. It's all about being creative and dictating the matchups you want so you can win. The idea that we couldn't use two elite pass rushing DTs at the same time is ridiculous.

Regardless of the outcome of the draft, and despite his occasional outbursts, I applaud JDouble's passion on this subject. He makes some compelling arguments though there is probably a 75 percent chance we wind up with a wideout or QB.

this past season 4 DTs had big sack numbers. All were 300 lbs. 1 was 6'6, 1 was 6'4, and 2 were 6'1. So he is relatively similar to 3 of the top sack guys.

Donald does fit with us. It probably won't happen, but Donald would be a fit here. Coach Smith a really good defensive coach, he would make it work.
