How many 290 pound DTs have there been that can run a 4.68 40 and have the strength to put up 35 reps on the bench? Only one that even comes close is Atkins and he is a current player.
The way I see things is the O-line, to be effective, has to work as one unit. They have to create a "U" shaped wall that forms a pocket for the QB to operate in. If there is a weak link in the O-line and one defender comes flying through, then the whole thing falls apart. With that in mind, you put Aaron Donald and Gerald McCoy side by side in the middle and there isn't a LG/C/RG combo in the league that can stop that. The front of that "U" wall gets pushed in or penetrated and everything goes to sh!t in a hurry for the offense. You can talk about different alignments or label our DTs as UT and NT even though Lovie has always used two pass rushing DTs.....but none of that matters when the ball is snapped and the QB immediately has Donald or McCoy in their face, or have their Center stepping on their toes because he's been over powered and thrown back. Especially when you have a speed rusher like Michael Johnson looping around the outside to blast you when you can't step up into the pocket. It's a recipe for dominance and no talk of scheme or alignment or labeling is going to change the reality on the field. In Buffalo last year, they ran a hybrid that uses both 3-4 and 4-3 philosophies. Kyle Williams had 10.5 sacks as the "NT" and Marcell Dareus had 7.5 sacks as the "UT". Their defense finished top 10 and they were 2nd in sacks with 57. It's all about being creative and dictating the matchups you want so you can win. The idea that we couldn't use two elite pass rushing DTs at the same time is ridiculous.
I get what you're saying, but you're also suggesting we should build our team to be more like the Bills.
Right. But Donald is only lining up at NT on passing downs. If both of your DT's are constantly getting penetration offenses will run the ball right down your throat. If we draft Donald he would be excellent at LDE, and giving McCoy a break at UT. On 3rd downs kick him inside to nose. He would instantly become our most versatil OL.
Lolz . Bumping this thread when we pass on him ....it's going to be hilarious.
Not as funny as your ranting about Trent Richardson. And that wasn't that long ago. And you weren't kidding either. Bump that one for us boy wonder! Because that was funny.

Trent was an easy mistake to make. Even the Colts are still fooled and gave up a 1st for him last year. How about I bump Freelove instead ... let's talk about funny . LOLExtend Antonio Bryant to big money !! Keep souldja boy Kellen Winslow !! Freelove !!!Figure out what the "under" alignment is yet , dumb ass ?
Okay Daniel Nesheim! Trade away picks for Trent! And Donald wouldn't be the guy they double. They would be blasting McCoy in that case...he is the guy who needs paying attention to. As well as MJ.
I don't know DJ I wouldn't be surprised at all if we drafted Donald.

it would be hilarious if you think hes a bust and he is a bust. It's not going to be hilarious if we pass on a great player.

hadn't seen that. Props to Scott for not being a sheep and recognizing greatness.
I had Donald in my top ten options (I think #8) for the Bucs at #7. I think he's going to be a really good player, but I definitely agree that he's an unlikely pick for the Bucs. I saw someone get criticized for throwing out 10%, but I thought that was a pretty generous number. I know you draft BPA over draft for need, but unless he's much higher than the next closest guy, I have a hard time seeing them take a guy who plays the same position as one of the few, legit superstars on the team. That said, I believe you win with a pass rush and would have no problem with stocking up on as many pass rushers as possible. I just don't see it happening.
He is a great player and the Bucs would be dumb to pass up a great player because of a need. However he also helps the need at pass rushing. Which he showed he can do from any position on the line. If he's the highest rated player on their board they will select him.

And I thought I was the only one that likes Matthews better than Robinson.
Donald will make a great 3 tech for someone. We have a 3 tech. NEXT !
