Having watched all four games, and understanding that we still haven't seen much regarding schemes and play calling, the units that impressed me the most during preseason would have to be our defensive tackles and linebackers. Obviously, the DTs are an easy call. McCoy and McDonald are going to be absolute beasts. However, I've seen some flashes from other guys as well. Talley looked good last night and was disrupting plays in the backfield quite often. Other than being put on skates at least once last night (it was bad....seriously, Cullen is going to have a fit when they review the film) Akeem Spence has had a very solid preseason and between he, McCoy and McDonald, we among the best DT rotations in the league. What really got my attention was the play of the linebackers. We all know who Lavonte David is and he definitely flashed this preseason. But it is the other guys that have really impressed me. Foster....mark it down.....is going to be a Pro Bowler in this defense. His play hasn't been flawless but considering he is playing in a new defense, he has shown out thus far. He seems to be everywhere. Danny Lansanah has exploded on the scene. If I'm Jonathan Casillas, I'm looking over my shoulder. Fletcher will provide nice depth and a special teams presence. Even Glaud and Askew played well and will hopefully make it on the practice squad if not scooped up by another team. This team is going to be very solid up the middle and teams will have a hard time running the ball. Unfortunately, there are still tons of areas of weakness, even though the Bucs seemingly have taken some steps to shore them up. All of that will have to wait for the regular season. However, if we learned anything from preseason, we can head into week 1 knowing that our DTs and backers are going to be more than ready. Cam is going to have to go to the air which is exactly what you want him to do.
