Tom Coughlin: NFL should move XPs to 1-yard lineDoesn't care for moving XPs back. Jason Butt      National Football PostAugust 21, 2014,    11 PM EST..14809432868_4A2C6D2A70.Jpg Giants coach Tom Coughlin wasn't fond of the NFL's trial to move extra points back 15 yards. There are too many factors at play that could work against the NFL's best interest. As of now, an extra point play begins at the 2-yard line. Coughlin had an alternative proposal. "If you really want to make it interesting put it at the one," he said, via the Newark Star-Ledger. Interesting idea, Coach. Coughlin makes a solid point though. If the ball starts at the 1-yard line, coaches might be more inclined to go for two points instead of one. The strategy would change a bit, regardless of the elements outdoors. "I think you have to be aware of the fact that it’s a 33-yard field goal in November when the wind’s blowing and it’s snowing here and it’s … in Miami it’s 75 degrees," Coughlin said. "It’s a little different in different parts of the country. You do have to be aware of that." If the preseason trial with extra points eventually heads to the regular season, then teams would likely only go for two if the weather isn't working in their favor. If the ball moves up a yard, there could be a greater likelihood for coaches to get creative with their point-after plays. If anything, it's an example of Coughlin thinking outside of the box. The likelihood of this idea becoming something the NFL implements? Not likely.
