I'm wit JDubs stance on pot. I got no problem with it. Spence should have just waited until he got home to light up. But lets remember he is 22, he's still young n dumb and definitely shouldn't be asked to be a role model for anyone. He still learning to be a man in the league.
I don't really care. Pot shouldn't be illegal in the first place and the country is finally, slowly coming around to that fact. It is still illegal right now and so this was stupid on his part....but as long as it doesn't become a pattern....I don't care. Nothing wrong with smoking a joint in my mind, so it's hard to hate on a guy. Really?Not the debate on whether or not you think it's okay. The fact is that his employer has rules that are in place against this and they pay the dude a pretty solid salary to abide by the rules. It's also a slap to the fans that want their team to be successful and find out starters and big contributors to the team are on drugs.You have to be pretty dern stupid to be a professional athlete using drugs. I agree. There are rules and you have to be pretty stupid to risk throwing away you NFL career for weed.....at the same time, I don't see smoking an occasional joint as "being on drugs". Many people have grown up smoking recreational pot like others drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes. There is nothing wrong with it. It's illegal...but so is my window tint. Doesn't mean it is really a bad thing. Just means the law is stupid. Gotta pick your battles though, so I get what you are saying. I've smoked weed my whole life and I enjoy it. However, I live on a military base and if I was to get caught with pot, it would severely damage my life and my wife's career.....so I don't risk it. Ever. I guess the same can be said for these football players. They shouldn't risk it. Ever.....but they're very young and rich and have lots of free time in the offseason. It's easier said than done. In the end, it is a stupid choice. They can just wait until their career is over at 30 and then smoke weed all they want. I just can't hate too hard on a kid for smoking a joint. Now if he doesn't learn his lesson, and he gets caught again...we have a problem.
Right, so we really are on the same page here. I was in college once so I know what the deal is. I'm not oblivious to it. I just think a professional athlete should have enough sense to say to himself, "Okay, I get paid millions to play a game... let me think before I do something to screw this up." We've seen it time and time again though. We know these guys aren't exactly geniuses.

When I'm carrying drugs, I like to stay incon**CENSORED**uous. So I usually drive 100mph or faster, that way it really cuts down on the amount of time I'm on the road with drugs and it greatly reduces the chances of me being caught....

In all fairness, we don't know if he was smoking at the time of the traffic stop or not. The report only said they found an unspecified amount. As some of you may know these cops tend to embrace technicality - it could have been something as small as seeds, we just don't know. The speeding is really what gets me though, I mean I'll confess to taking many a burn cruise in my day, but never ever ever ever in a million years did I think to go 100+ while I was lit. Just move over, set the cruise to the speed limit and keep your eyes on the road you big dummy - or just don't smoke. Either one is much easier than talking to the cops.
I think the punishment should be loss of your complete salary for the year when something like this happens. Yep, you have to play for free. Considering so many players these days care only about the lifestyle...take it away from them. If they want to start acting responsibly they can begin earning money again the following year, unless of course there's another violation...which then would lead to two years of salary taken away. Eventually they might learn a lesson, but probably not.
