Is it THAT hard to not smoke weed? You can be a millionaire, all you have to do is not smoke weed for 10 years - nah man, I wanna get high.

Apparently when you're from the ghetto it is.

I find this highly offensive.  Your stereotype does much more to demean you and reveal your own ignorance than say anything about Mr. Spence.

Akeem grew up in Fort Walton Beach Florida. Far from a ghetto. Doloris just assumes sh!t because he is an ignorant fool. Ignore him.

I think DJ is actually pretty funny.  Much of my time on here is spent watching him poke you with a stick and seeing how you react.  Its probably not much fun for you but I laugh a good bit.

Point 1- I know plenty of people (myself included) that had to quit smoking weed because of a job and not one of those people made the kind of money a pro ball player makes.  I have no sympathy.Point 2- If you are going to drive with weed in the car you drive like there is a driver's ed teacher in the passenger seat.  Seeds in the floor?  Vacuum your sh1t.  Roach in the ashtray?  Eat it.  An actual amount of weed?  Slow your butt down.  These players are just sloppy.

I think the punishment should be loss of your complete salary for the year when something like this happens. Yep, you have to play for free. Considering so many players these days care only about the lifestyle...take it away from them. If they want to start acting responsibly they can begin earning money again the following year, unless of course there's another violation...which then would lead to two years of salary taken away. Eventually they might learn a lesson, but probably not.

The thought of accountability leads you to this reaction? Says a lot about you.

asking that someone lose millions in salary for processing a bit of pot shows that you still live in the 50's.....driving at 100mph is the more serious offense....but your eyes glazed all over that fact didn't you...

Who's to blame for "losing millions in salary" in the scenario I provided? The player. You seem to be looking at this issue from the perspective that the player is the victim here. I'll just say I'm not surprised, for a variety of reasons. As for your comment that I'm "stuck in the 50's", oops swing and a miss. I'm completely in favor of the legalization of pot, I've argued that on here more than once. The fact is, the punishment needs to fit the crime. Jeopardizing a career as a pro athlete making millions of dollars so that you can get high is extremely stupid, therefore the punishment needs to be just as extreme. Now go on pretending Akeem is the victim here, Obama would be proud.  Oh, and driving 100 mph won't get you suspended from the league, smoking pot will, but his speeding is "the more serious offense"? Are you really this stupid? I'm leaning heavily towards yes on that one.

^ I wonder how quick you would be to work your job for free and forfeit millions of dollars for a crime that while you were arrested for stand very little chance of ever being convicted of and for the time being can not even be proven to that you committed.    Any of us could be stopped for speeding, have our cars illegally searched and the police allege they found drugs.  That is a far stretch from being proven to be a drug user or even being in possession of drugs.  There are any number of possibilities up to and including that they did not find anything but rather planted something (it certainly would not be the first time).  Perhaps the guy really did have marijuana in his car, and maybe he is a user but I would not be so quick to convict someone you dont know anything about.

I could easily be fired from my job for being arrested for drug possession, so I don't really have an inherent problem with the forfeiting millions of dollars part.  But yes, they'd have to (at least) suspend him for that to make any sense at all.  The idea of somehow forcing him to keep playing without pay is just ludicrous.(Again, none of this is to suggest that rules against pot are just and moral.)

So now the story is the pot was planted? In other words, playing the race card....surprised it took this long. It's very simple, if you want to keep your career as a pro athlete making obscene amounts of money, stop smoking pot. If you decide you're not willing to do that, you're an absolute fool who deserves anything that stems from such a horrible decision. I realize that many people look at pro athletes as gods, but this is getting ridiculous.

Why do people continue to skip right over personal accountability? If a player smokes pot and loses their salary yet still has to play, who's to blame for that? Is the team forcing a player to play without salary? Nope. Is the GM? Nope. The league? Nope. Guess who it is? The player. The instant a player decides to do drugs, knowing all along what will happen, it's the PLAYER that decided to play for nothing. Accountability is enemy number one around here...I'm starting to think this is something people have been conditioned to hate.

I don't care that he smokes weed. I'm sure most of the NFL does. And I'd much rather he gets high and drives than getting drunk and drive.

I'm all for personal accountability.  Unless it involves a prison term, forcing someone to perform a job without pay isn't "personal responsibility".  The league could reasonably suspend him without pay or fire him.  The state could reasonably charge him for a crime.  I hate to be That Guy, but forcing someone to work a job without pay is called "slavery".
