Super Bowl caliber offense.  Defense just needs to double their INT total from last year and that may be enough along with forcing more punts to give it back to the super bowl caliber offense.

The Bucs are 2nd tier but they can easily knock off the 1st tier teams if the defense looks NFL average because of how good the offense will really be.

Yes. Couldn't have put it better. If defense takes the ball away and also better at getting off the field to help the offense do its thing could be a real tough team. Id say second tier is kind of where our team was when Brady came in. They just kept getting better that season and only buc fans were positive it could be a special season. No experts were. Id say they give this team more of a chance than they have the tom brady led team.

Since Bowles has been with the team the Bucs have averaged double the amount of INTs they had last season. Last season was an anomaly and if the Bucs defense goes back to what it normally forces in terms of INTS that allows shorter field position for the offense to score more points and increase leads.  Throw in a competent punter to flip field position and this will allow the defense to be able to attack and rush the passer better.

i think we will tell really quickly what this team is made out of

Start off the season on the road against a team that owned us last year, follow that up on the road in prime time in which we were 0-5 last year (including playoffs) and then after hopefully a winnable home Jets game, face the defending Superbowl champs in our Stadium.

All this and we are without some of our best players in Tristian Wirfs and Chris Godwin.

if we go 3-1 or better, then yes, put this team in that #1 seed conversation and superbowl contenders

if we go 2-2 or worse, i'd likely put us in more of the same, 9-11 win type season and maybe win a playoff game

I’d change it to 2-2 or better.

I agree

It might also turn out that the last 4, or even 5 games, really say what the team is made of. Lots of division games and maybe needing a late run to win the division.

oh i have no doubt we should go on a late season run.  The last 6 games of the season are all very winnable and games we are likely favored in. BUT...we've done that the last 2 seasons as well (winning 6 of final 7 last year, and 5 out of last 6 in 2023)

two things will prove this team is different than those years

1 - how do we perform in prime time games?  All teams are quality opponents but can we at least be .500 (@HOU, @DET, @LAR, V ATL)?

2 - how does the team start the first 4 being injury riddled?  we are favored in 2 games (@ATL, V NYJ) and the other two likely toss up games.  2-2 would about match my expectations of what we should at the very least do but 3-1 would show me that this team is for real

again, those are just early indicators

im still very worried how high expectations are....

At this point in time there are 32 contenders. Let's revisit this in 10 weeks and see because that's when the real teams start to heat up.

We should probably get used to it. Seems like we are drafting for a nice long run.  Tampa is too talented to have weak expectations.  If we underperform, we get a new coach.

Im not so sure about the new coach thing

one would suggest we underperformed last year at 10-7, top 5 offense and first round playoff exit. Bucs turn around and extend the head coach before this year

we somehow go 6-11, Bowles is here next year anyway

Circumstances matter.

Some fans seem to "suggest we underperformed last year at 10-7," but it sure does not seem that the GM and owners agree because, as you say, they "extend[ed] the head coach before this year."

Its that disconnect (ie the reason behind the performance) that makes it possible Bowles is fired on his way to 6-11 and possible he is not fired for 6-11. It would all depend how it played out.  I think he would be more likely than not to be fired at 6-11
