This is neither an endorsement nor an opposition. But rather a discussion of pros and cons. After listening to Florio and Simms (both are good but Florio’s opinions I really respect) They both agreed that the time is now for a team to do the right thing and give Kap a workout. The point was a team needs to have the balls and not worry about political backlash from the right, if you sign him, or the left, if you work him out and don’t sign him. But it’s time to put politics aside and make a football decision. Now is the time to give him a workout.
So I thought about the fit in Tampa. Arians is one of the most progressive coaches in the league when it comes to minority hires. Also Leads the league in female coaching hires. His no BS attitude is a good fit for not giving a damn about political optics. And he has suggested the idea of a quarantined QB, in case the virus hits the QB room.
Kneeling has never been about the flag and perhaps now that Brees has reversed his feelings and the nfl, players and league office support the cause, and the tide of public opinion has swayed in favor, this in my eyes would be a plus in the PR department.
But this shouldn’t be about PR. This is about a Super Bowl run and making your roster better. None of us know how rusty he might be, or what 3 years away have done to diminish his skills. But isn’t it worth a look?
72-30 TD-INT ratio
88.9 passer rating
60% completion
13 rushing TD’s
Lead a team to 2 NFC title games and a Super Bowl
Is that better than Gabbert or Griffen?
With a starter in place in Brady that won’t be looking over his shoulder and unless Brady completely falls apart we won’t hear chants to send in the back up. He could sit and slowly reaclimate to game speed.
Will there be fans that say they can’t support the team because of their politics, yes. But considering our current environment I’m sure those seats would quickly be filled.
Up to this point I’ve strayed a bit from “just a work out” but if it goes well I’d assume his asking price has dropped considerably.
Is he a scheme fit? NO! Does that matter? Can Arians scheme a few plays for him? Could this offense be altered if Brady goes down and you need him? I’d like to think so.
