Flash back to 1989. Jimmy Johnson takes over as Cowboys coach. Drafts Troy Aikman number one overall, posts a 1-15 record. That offseason, he makes the infamous Herschel Walker blockbuster trade, netting him a slew of draft picks. Some of those draft picks turn into Emmit Smith, Russell Maryland, Leon Lett, Nate Newton, Daryl "Moose" Johnston and Alvin Harper. Dallas posts a 7-9 record in 1990, going down to the final week of the season before missing the playoffs. The 1991 season brings a divisional title and they make it to the second round of the playoffs. They then proceed to win Super Bowls in three of the next four seasons.Last season and this season for the Bucs have mirrored the 1989-1990 Cowboys in many ways. A franchise QB and a Michael Irvin-esque receiver have been brought in, and the records are eerily similar (and they could squeeze into the playoffs). Will they make the playoffs next year and be in the thick of contention for the Super Bowl for the next five? Only time will tell. Thoughts?
