Indoor football team signs first female running back Louis Ojeda Jr. FOX Sports Southwest JAN 24, 2014 8:58p ET Courtesy, Texas Revolution Women playing football is nothing new, but this is a first. The Texas Revolution of the Indoor Football League announced at a news conference on Friday that they have signed 5-foot-2, 130-pound Jennifer Welter, who will try out next month at running back. There are female football leagues, referees, and kickers at the high school and college level, but Welter is the first in a men's professional league to play at a skill position. Welter is no amateur either. She has played linebacker for the Dallas Diamonds of the Women's Football Alliance since 2004, and is a veteran rugby player. In 13 years in Women's Pro Football, she's an eight-time Pro-Bowler. But she was presented with a new challenge when the Revolution came calling. "I told them, 'I respect football first and foremost,' " she told the Dallas Morning News. " 'If this doesn't respect the game, if it's just some gimmick, I won't do it.' "I don't know if I surprised them a little with that, because they said, 'You know, you could go through part of training camp.' I said, 'No, no, no. If I'm going to go through training camp, I'm going to go through all aspects of it, just like the boys do.' That's what I believe." Revs general manager and 1987 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Brown truly believes she can compete for the job. "When you look at her resume, when you look at who she is, she's not a joke," Brown told the Morning News. "This is not a lady that does anything for laughing matters or just for stunts. This is something she's taking seriously. If she's going to take it seriously, guess what? We're going to take it just as serious." Welter, who has a PhD. in psychology and a BS in business, has also been mentor and motivator throughout her career. "I don't care if I make the team or whether I'm a superstar on the team," Welter said. "I want people to see that there are girls who love football and know football and are dedicated, hard-working athletes. That goes much beyond this team." Training camp begins Feb. 8 and the Revs kick off the season on Feb. 15.

The other is Katie Blackburn of the Cincinnati Bengals, daughter of team owner Mike Brown.Read more here: http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/01/25/3891755/miami-dolphins-executive-dawn.html#storylink=cpy
No because the simple fact of genetics, the biggest, strongest & fastest men are bigger stronger & faster than their female counterparts.Equal rights is great up to a point where reality puts it's foot down. It's like with fire fighters, there is a reason most of them are male, most females wash out of training because they aren't able to meet the physical demands of the job, who would you rather have trying to carry you out of a burning building, an average man or an average woman?Sure there will be the odd genetic exceptions but then that exception also has to want to play football, stay healthy through school and develop the football talent to go along with those genetics. The odds are so low that it's not even worth asking. That's before you even get into what ifs with things like a female player who signs a guaranteed contract and then gets knocked up.I mean just look at the example of the woman in the OP, this is a top female football player, she's 5 foot 2 and 130 pounds, I would put money on McCoys morning clearout being bigger than that. She's get killed in the NFL (that might not even be an exaggeration)
Yeah, women aren't genetically cut out for the whole contact sport scene. However, that's not to say they're athletically inadequate. For some odd reason, women usually dominate men in two sports -- equestrian and sharpshooting. Must be a coordination thing. But as far as professional football (or even college)... it's not a safe environment for someone who's weak, slow, and slight of frame. We wouldn't tolerate having a fourth grader play high school football (however athletic he might appear compared to his peers), and we really shouldn't consider women, outside of kickers and punters, for similar reasons. But I'd absolutely change my tune if an experienced, 180-pound, 5-foot-8, 4.5-running chick wanted to have a go at receiver or something. I just don't know if that person -- the one possesing the size, the skill set, and the passion for football -- exists.
There has already been a woman in the NFL :
Yeah for about 1 play.
Blaze. You have to be right to some extent. The ladies down at the range I go to are ridiculously good shooters.I pity the fool who thinks attacking them is a good idea.
Can't see it. Logistics. Genetics. These factors will stop that idea cold.
There has already been a woman in the NFL :
You're right. We have glennon..

BwahahahahahahaThis made my morning
I'm pretty sure the female on the left in that picture used to return punts for us.
I was an ok basketball player. played through jr. high. and was good enough to make the high school team but didn't go out because I hated the coach. but spent countless hours playing in driveways or on the courts. might not have been a superstar but I didn't embarrass myself either. in college me and some other guys were shooting hoops in the gym and ended up in a pick up match against some members of the girls team. I cant tell you how thoroughly they kicked our asses.

LolY'all should have some D on them.
Since every time anyone touches Brees they throw a flag, then there is no reason that a female couldn't play QB for the Saints
130 lbs.... Righhht.. She will be done after one real hit.
BS. I saw a woman lift 900 lbs. on ESPN in the 90s. They can be just as strong as men.
