The Seahawks’ deaf fullback will inspire you to root for Seattle By Nate Scott    USA Today Sports8 hours ago @aNateScott Deaf_Zps56C7B6D5.JpgDerrick Coleman (Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports) “They didn’t call my name, told me it was over. But I’ve been deaf since I was 3, so I didn’t listen.” The above words are spoken by Seattle Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman in a breathtaking commercial for Duracell, a 60-second spot that tells the story of Coleman’s life, from the time he lost his hearing until now. Coleman is the first and only legally deaf offensive player in NFL history.   Coleman stars in commercial that has gone viral http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2HD57z4F8E&feature=player_embedded Coleman lost his hearing at the age of 3, and got by using hearing aids and an ability to read lips. Raised in Los Angeles, Coleman was a star fullback at Troy High School (Fullerton, CA) and was rated the #2 fullback in the country entering college. After a standout career at UCLA, including a senior year that saw him rush for 765 yards and score 11 touchdowns along with his excellent blocking, Coleman put his name in for the 2012 NFL draft…and no one picked him. Was it because NFL teams didn’t want to deal with having to coach a deaf player? It’s impossible to know, but Coleman didn’t let it discourage him. He waited a year and tried again, this time hooking on with the Seahawks in training camp. He impressed coaches with his blocking and special teams, and head coach Pete Carroll decided to keep him on the 53-man roster, where he’s stayed to this day.  Coleman doesn’t use his impaired hearing as an excuse for anything. He wears two skullcaps to keep his hearing aids securely fastened during the game (in the commercial you see him applying tape to keep them on) and he makes sure QBs know to look at him when calling the plays so he can read their lips. From an interview with the Seattle Times: Coleman even says he thinks [his impaired hearing] gives him an edge when stadiums get especially raucous and players have to rely on hand signals and other non-verbal methods of communication. “When it gets loud I feel like I have the advantage,” he said. “I can tune that out.” If you were looking for a team to pull for in the NFC Championship Game, this settles it. Hop on the Seahawks’ (and Coleman’s) bandwagon.

Good for him. I am already on the Seahawks bandwagon, but this is another reason.  Should be a great game though, I am thinking somewhere along the lines ofSeahawks  21Niners        20And,  Broncos  28          Patriots  10Brady is sick right now, but with 3-4 days to go before the game, he may be back to normal by then. Both the Seahawks and Broncos are tough to beat at their house.

Niners of course. Been a fan since I was born(From Richmond, CA)..Not only that but I feel they are the better team. As healthy as they've been all year long. I expect them to have a "breakout" game of sorts in all 3 phases. I just feel really really good about this game.

There both great teams.  So home field could factor in.  IIRC, the Seahawks are something like 13-1 in their last 14 home games.  The Niners got off to a shaky start, but after Crabtree returned, everything started to click.  Should be a good one.

Niners started the year 1-2....Finished 11-2. It will be a good game. Should be one of the more physical battles we've seen this year. Like the Steelers/Ravens games from a couple years back. That said, call me crazy....I don't think it will be close. I think San Fran is going to dominate this game.

Oh hell, I hope no one says that to Richard Sherman.  [j/k]

I'd like the Niners to win because it increases Lavonte's chances of being in the Pro Bowl but I'll likely be rooting for Seattle. In the AFC, I hate the Horsehead but I'll have to root for his bunch over the Patriots. I don't want to see Aquib Talib or Blount in the Super Bowl.
