They liked him and so did many. 36 yr old starter w injury who they tampered with to acquire and will lose their draft pick  they will need to have a workable backup   Keep in mind Cousins contract is really a two year deal in reality with option for yrs 3-4

they did what they needed to do.  The qb draft class for next yr is bad, so they got a deep thrower with a cannon arm with maturity who can run a pro set.

was a terrible draft choice. They won 7 games without a QB last year so they go out and throw $180M at Cousins with $100M guaranteed.  Before the guy even took a snap, you soured his morale.  Imagine you starting a new job somewhere new, feeling good about the future and they do something assanine to piss you off in which they know would piss you off.  How's your morale with that company?

Penix is 24 years old and will ride the bench for 2 years with the plan to start at 26 at best?  Penix was a late 1st, 2ound round pick at best, not top 10.

Plus, entering the season, Falcons were favored over Bucs and Saints but barely.  Most would have all three teams in the same category. With a top 10 pick, the Falcons could have selected an impact player to separate them but they failed to do so

the question to me is Raheem Morris still the head coach when Penix is full time starter?

they tried to do what Green Bay does and i think it will backfire

Even if they lose the 1st round pick, they still have Cousins for two years if he's healthy.  If Cousins is not healthy, then you have to do something or you're seriously screwed.  What may be going on here is that perhaps they're having buyer's remorse on Cousins because of his medical condition.  Maybe they're finding out that Cousins recovery isn't going as well as planned and that perhaps he will take longer to totally recover if that even happens at all.

The big mistake may not actually be drafting Penix.  The big mistake may be signing Cousins.

If they knew they were going to draft Penix they should have not signed Cousins.  They could have added some serious edge rusher help another WR and more depth because Penix would be on his rookie contract.

yeah exactly reeks of dysfunction

but as a Bucs fan, we couldn’t have asked for a better selection by Atlanta

could Raheem still be a Bucs fan? 🧐

Bucs lucked out because it may hamper the Falcons ability to compete the next two seasons.  The Saints on the other hand are flying under the radar like the Bucs and both will be sneaky good next year.

Carolina will be competitive but if Tepper expects Young to explode on the scene I think he is being overly optimistic and not patient enough.

Should be between tampa and new Orleans again. Dumb pick by Atlanta but I won't complain.

Yup.

Saints probably need to add a veteran OL or two and piece together their best starting five on their OL.  The Saints will sneak up on people and if the Saints adjust and actually let Carr be a game manager instead of trying to play hero ball they can compete.

Kind of surprising that the media looks down on the Bucs and Saints when they probably have rosters that have enough playoff experience but still have enough youth in the mix.

After the draft I still don't see the hype with Atlanta if we are to be honest.

Poor decision. The rest of their draft was fair, but not great. They have a great roster heading in - and they have better coaching and an easier schedule, so if Cousins recovers from surgery, no one will know, for awhile. They added depth at the right spots in the draft - but not a lot of difference makers.

As we know, the schedule, roster, and coaching staff will be in their favor, but I think the Bucs draft was sneaky good & actually improved the team on many levels.

Latest word is Atlanta tried to trade up to 10 also after taking Penix.  This is clearly meant to stymie the league’s upcoming punishment of them for tampering by taking away the forfeited picks they were going to lose next year.  The league made a huge error not making them pay this year and ATL was doing their very best to squat in their face.

league has to punish them hard for it now

would have been really hysterical if they traded up to 10 and picked Bo Nix!

Should be between tampa and new Orleans again.

If Cousins has no set backs, they are VERY MUCH in the mix for the division.

They were in it until the end last season and that was with absolute trash QB play and coaching.

yes just by law of averages, the fact that we won it 3 years in a row and one without the GOAT; the Saints or Falcons are due to win the division.

doesn't mean i'm not entering the season on high hopes, just saying, it's quite possible we shot our load last year with a playoff win.

talent wise - all three teams are in that 7-10 win range so should not be surprising to anyone.

A poor man's version but...

Bucs had trash at QB in 2019, won 7 games, and signed an experienced top 10 QB Vet; won Superbowl in 2020 and first playoff appearance in over a decade

Falcons had trash at QB in 2023, won 7 games, and signed an experienced top 10 QB Vet; havent made playoffs since 2017
