That's "projected" by Spotrac as opposed to reported, unless it was reported somewhere else.It puts him roughly in the upper middle range of QBs, right?
If it happens as reported
Jared Goff - If you are going by Average Annual Value Goff is 16th at $33 mil. Goff is 14th in total value with 4 years for $134 mil. So that's about $34 mil for four years. He's coming up on the last year of that deal. What's he going to be worth when he's a free agent? $50 mil per? He's good, but not top ten.
Derek Carr is a comparable QB, let's face it. He is a similar type of QB who knows now to run things. He's not going to lose games for you, but he won't blow you away with his skills. He's a middle of the pack QB. He had four years for $150 mil. $100 mil guaranteed. So that $100 mil guaranteed money has to be what the Mayfield camp is looking at. That was last year and now of course the cap is higher.
Geno Smith only had $40 mil of his $75 mil guaranteed. But I'd say Geno is a step down from Baker and Carr.
Daniel Jones infamously got $40 mil per for four years $160 with $92 mil guaranteed. Even if we factor in that that was a huge mistake it still gives you an idea of what is going on here.
Those are the comparable QBs to Baker. Basically, these quarterbacks are getting roughly 2/3 of their contract guaranteed. If I'm Baker's agent I'm looking very hard at that Derek Carr contract. Very, very hard at that $100 mil guaranteed.
So after looking at that my prediction is Baker will sign for 4 years $150 mil with $90 mil guaranteed.

yes, apologies for any confusion I read it on SI, but they were only reporting on the projection. I wasn't suggesting it was a deal.
I'd agree with this. It would allow the contract to be structured to sign our top 5 FA's, and extend Wirffs. That's "projected" by Spotrac as opposed to reported, unless it was reported somewhere else.It puts him roughly in the upper middle range of QBs, right?

If we get him for less, great.
at 4 years, $120M i guess it isnt bad but all depends how its structured.
the $30M a year is about what we can expect...$25M would have been really great but $30M is acceptable.
it's just that if Baker reverts back to slop, we want to be able to move on after year 2. dont want to pull what the saints and broncos did with Carr and Wilson
Next season is going to be tough and best chances for success (winning more than we lose, getting to playoffs), will require bringing in ALL our FA’s resigned AND improving the defense, interior line/running game.
All achievable - so it leaves the window propped open.

And, with the proposed contract highlighted, if Baker shits the bed the next 2 season we would have an out.
However, it would come with a dead cap him of anywhere between $35M - $65M depending on the structuring (probably more on the lower end).
Factor in $19M in dead cap for Godwin next year (unless they post 6/1 cut him in 2025...which would roll it to 2026, regardless I highly doubt he's back after this upcoming season), $16M spread over 2 years for Jensen, plus others.
I understand why they'd want to essentially backload it. Let's you sign the more important and better players (i.e. Wirfs, Winfield, Evans, LVD).
But, I think it would be more prudent to backload Tristan and Antoine's deals. They're elite, young, and will be here for the long-haul. And, I think it could create just enough room for the other extensions/new deals without jeopardizing the future.
Licht needs to be smart about these contracts. We ARE NOT in a window like a few have suggested. We are not "competitors" in the sense of the NFC title or a Lombardi.
Who in the NFC South fits that window, now?
No one made that claim.

Honestly the NFC is weak but there’s 1 clear leader in the 49ers who were a few plays away from losing to the packers and lions in the playoffs.
next is the eagles and cowboys and you saw what we did to the eagles
detroit had a good year but again they are beatable
its hard to see the Bucs as NFC champs but that’s just because the last 2 years despite making the playoffs have been a .500 squad
they have a brutal schedule this year. If they can manage 11 wins that would show me this team has a chance and has found something.
And, with the proposed contract highlighted
Sorry if posted already, but can anyone offeror confirm the timeline on all of this?
If Licht takes our own FAs off the market BEFORE free agency that would be before March 13th? Or, actually a couple days before because there is the legal tampering period?
When is the deadline to franchise tag someone? Also March13?
Even though he's reportedly working to re-do Wirfs contract, Wirfs is under contract so sort of exempt from the deadlines except to the extent Licht ties all of these together for budgeting purposes?
According to an article by SR - deadline would to have a contract signed before noon on March 11th.And, with the proposed contract highlighted

Thats the reason for a window to get into the playoffs, and as you said previously: once there, anything can happen.Who in the NFC South fits that window, now?

And the schedule is brutal, we’ll definitely need all our weapons playing at a high level, every week.

The tag is due prior to 4pm EST on March 5th.
Legal Tampering Period starts 12pm on March 11th until 4pm on March 13th.
Executed contracts can begin after that.
Honestly the NFC is weak…
Agreed.
49’ers and Lions are the “Contenders”.
Then I’d put the Cowboys and Eagles in the next tier.
Last one would be Packers, Rams, Bucs
Obviously, draft and FA can change this.
Only adding this because of the way it explains/justifies the value AND the reason to wait on finalizing deals (ie to learn where the market will fall):
"League sources believe Baker Mayfield will sign a contract in the area of $40 million annually, though no official offers have been made right now.
Jordan Love, Tua Tagovailoa, and Brock Purdy will eventually sign deals over the next 12-15 months that will make Mayfield’s contract “look like a bargain.”
Baker “on top of falcons wishlist “ per Bucs nation
