Falcons likely scare me the most
Literally one of two argument made by Pauline in the original article. (That almost no one has read lol)
Basically the same list I came up with. I would Add WAS possibly. They obviously are going to draft a QB, but they might want a bridge QB to allow their rook QB to acclimate for a season or two, depending on how he looks in camp removed link I think the real contenders are DEN and ATL. Payton has always been a vocal admirer of Baker; he thinks Baker is a Drew Brees/Brett Favre hybrid. If no one offers more than say $30 million/yr, Sean would probably bang the table for Mayfield and offer him something like $35 million removed link
I mean, he did when the “Throw at Inflatable Objects” contest.
His agent is probably salivating.
I think his agent is CSA. Could be wrong. point is BIG NFL Agency, Tom Mills a BIG agent.Has probably worked with Licht on dozens and dozens of contracts. Both sides probably valued the Mayfield contract before the season was even over.
even though it isn't rocket surgery.
Buggsy, its not "rocket surgery" because CSA and Licht have a symbiotic relationship.
Now, I know "you're" thrown by that big word. it means they both achieve their long terms goals (execute many player contracts) by working TOGETHER as much as they can. Neither wants to burn the other. They are opposite each other on the Mayfield contract, but there are MANY MANY player and contracts to sign so BOTH sides are trying to get a contract that works for Mayfield AND the Bucs
this is why I said (and you misread, of course ) that they probably had a range (ie an agreement in principle )BEFORE all of this or else why go get a Mayfield OC (if that is true)?
Let him test the market and have him comeback with a number we should be his #1 choice, a new team that spends 40m on Baker is a HC putting his job on the line for him. This is the best situation for him undoubtedly.
As arguably the best quarterback in this year’s free agent class, Mayfield should have a solid market — should he get there. Spotrac estimates Mayfield’s value on a four-year contract at an average of $27.1 million annually.
Mayfield suggested there hasn’t been any significant developments in negotiations with the Bucs, but added that “now they’re trying to finalize Liam, I think that’ll pick up.”
My view has changed a bit in recent years on player contracts. He’s a great player and if he stays healthy I’m good with it. it’s not my money and we have plenty of people on the payroll that are stealing money before I’d be worried about overpaying Baker: Jensen (finally retiring), Gage, Shaq, Dean, Davis
He essentially played for free this season. Got to pay the piper sometime.

i am in no way advocating to pay Mayfield $40M as i'd say $25-$30M would be a good deal for Bucs with $33M being Baker winning the negotiations. $40M is outrageous and would be surprised if Bucs loved him that much. Also, we have no idea if that is what Baker is seeking or simply a negotiating tactic we've all seen before (most likely)
i'd be careful about letting him test the market. A team like Atlanta offers him the gig, he has potentially better weapons, a new coach with a longer leash, and the chip on his shoulder to stick it to the Bucs who were counting pennies for a guy who won a playoff game for them. Doubt Baker would be that petty but the Bowles aspect is something to consider. He is on the hot seat and a tough 2024 could spell the end of Bowles with a new coach coming in and maybe cleaning house on starting QB too. Raheem Morris believe it or not likely has 3 years which would be better odds of Mayfield starting to the end of that 3 year contract.
Again, if he's reasonable in the $25-$33 range, we get it done before he can look on the market. If he is seeking $40M, then yeah, let him look but dont think he will just let us match if a team offers that much and we really wanted him.
dont think many of us would do that at work, if we wanted an amount, our company doesn't give it to us and some company that doesn't even know us is willing to give it to us. Yeah, interesting indeed and it's not likely Mayfield is married to us like Evans or David who built a family here.
I'm all for keeping him but paying him that much means we can't sign or keep other talent.
So fuck that...
Draft Penix
I'm a Baker fan, so take this with a grain of salt, but I don't think Baker should take less than $33.5 million/yr. That would be just bad business. I also don't think he'll get an offer for $40 million, in spite of the fact that he's far better than some of the guys that are getting that kind of $$$. So there's that. $33.5-$35 million should be what Baker and his agent are really shooting for. Hopefully the Bucs can make that happen, because I really think he's happy to be in TB, and I think he'd flourish there.
I’m bout depending on length of deal. 40 million this year is more next season with NFLation. Run it back with Baker is a no brainer
what you will find is that maybe on that board do not have a brain.
can you believe that even to this day there are some still thinking we wouldn’t miss a beat with the backup Qb. The logic: “we haven’t seen him play yet”
There also others that hold mayfield to the same standard as Mount Rushmore QBs Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. The logic: “if you’re not first, you’re last - Ricky Bobby”
guess you will just have to be patient with them. Maybe they will wake up after Bucs win their first non Brady playoff game since their Super Bowl victory. No, not the one in 2020 but in 2002. (Wait for it, one of the debate Debby braindeadtards will chime in with technically the games were held in 2021 and 2003) but no, still even after that win, we still have pushback.
one silly article about $40 million. Relax. Let’s trust in Licht just a bit. Jason’s earned it

Coming from the same guy that stated Julio Jones was Antonio Bryant and could still play at a high level.
In all fairness, any major thinking beyond “paper or plastic” is a difficult task for Badadipshit.
