Licht put all his eggs in the Baker basket.

Cousins and Wilson are probably going to demand just as much and COULD have zero chemistry with Evans and Godwin.

We didn’t just resign Evans with a promise to him that Trask would lead the charge.

Our draft spot is too late to take a premium QB.

It’s Baker or bust. His agent knows this too.

Mayfield says Jones.  The Bucs say Smith.  They'll settle on Carr.

Derek Carr is as mediocre as they come.  $37.5M per year

He is a proven loser but puts up enough stats to keep his teams around .500

thing is, he's been doing it for 10 years

Baker's done it 3 years with being dog poo for the other 3 years

he's worth $25-$33M.  As others have said, maybe the $25M is the base and he has kickers to get to the $33M.

we took a chance on him and gave him a starting gig when no one else would.  The pickings are also slim this year, maybe 3-4 opportunities at best case scenario with others also going for those positions in Kurk Cousins and Russell Wilson.

can't imagine anyone would throw a 4 year, $150M Derek Carr type deal at Baker after 1 season of reviving his careerr.

Bucs should keep him hungry.  a 3 year deal that gives them the flexibility to kick him to the curb in year 3.

I honestly don’t care about the AAY.

The guaranteed money is what matters regarding dead cap and exit strategy.

That’s why $50M guaranteed and 3/yrs should be the max.

I'll throw out another name. Sam Darnold.

The difference between someone who follows the contracts closely (you) and someone who does not (me). I definitely get your point.

Does this mean you think Mayfield = Darnold  OR position not worth the $?

The difference in Mayfield and Darnold is minimal. But Mayfield's salary will be 10-15x more.

Well, I'm persuaded. He had a great game at the end of the year two years ago, after getting beat out by Baker Mayfield to start the year and "Shaun King" this season. That makes me completely forget about his sub-60% career completion percentage and his 63:56 TD:Int ratio.

I couldn't care less what he did on the Jets. He was on the exact same team as Mayfield in 2022 and he was better in every aspect.

I don't really disagree with his and Mayfield's skill level being close. However, I do think Mayfield has Darnold in the off the field/teammate stuff. Is that worth whatever their contract differences are? Probably not, but we'll see. Darnold is still Ewwww.

So, I definitely coluld be off, I do not follow Darnold, but wasnt he available last year? Didnt mayfield and Darnold BOTH signed minimal one year deals last year

If so, doesnt that mean the Bucs already make that choice on a TALENT basis?

And, if Darnold performed like Mayfield did last year he probably is the one getting the "10-15x more" salary, right?
