Darnold has a career 1:1 TD/INT ratio which is similar to players like Huntely and D. Lock. So I don't see the appeal with Darnold because what makes him stand out better than Huntley or D. Lock? In other words Huntley and Lock have shown they can lead a team to a comeback rally or even a comeback win. Darnold doesn't have that 2nd gear needed to win 4th quarter games or rally his team for a come back.

Arm talent and how he played in Carolina. Most of his work is with the Jets but they're a QB graveyard.
Sam Darnold is not the answer to ANY NFL teams’s starting QB question.
JC. Sam Darnold? come on man, did Baker sleep with your girlfriend or something?
if we can't retain Baker Mayfield, we should shift our focus to Russell Wilson or Kirk Cousins if we want to maintain in the playoff hunt. Any other option and we have no shot.
Looking at anywhere from 3 to 6 wins without one of those 3.
While Licht and Baker are dicking around with his new deal, perhaps Jason could shift gears for a minute and re-sign/extend a few of the other actual elite players on the team like Winfield, Wirfs, and David.

Preach it, Man Who Seeks Ass.
If Baker doesn't want to stay and wants 40M because daniel jones got 40m, he can leave, that is 2 top 10 players value, for a qb I saw on film last year who missed a lot of throws, and got outplayed by Kyle trask in training camp. Look 30m is fair but an extra 10m a year is another player like whitehead. If he cares about the money he can leave. Trask/Penix is gonna surprise a lot of people. We have a solid core of leaders and a good team, we WILL win with another qb.
Its going to be a looonggg season on the Red Board if (when) they re-sign Mayfield lol

Yes. Most shoot first, ask questions later
let’s see how the next week unfolds and dollar amounts
some here may not be in the business world or understand negotiation
yes. Most of us can agree at $40M per year, let’s consider cheaper alternatives. Unfortunately I only see cousins and Wilson keeping us competitive. Could tannehill? Fields? Not much out there
Cousins likely gets the same or more than baker in terms of a contract value per year
some will gripe if Baker gets $25m per year so it’s nature of the beast.
JC still hoping for a Luke McCown comeback to unseat the almighty Baker

The obvious predisposition to make Mayfield the villain . . .. .
Last week there was a report that Evans was going to test free agency . . . AND THEN HE SIGNED.
That might show how much value to put in "rumors" about negotiations lol.
Who knows obviously, but this week there is a report from SR that is actually the likely contract value being $34.5 and that report INCLUDED this phrase, with the last part seemingly ignored by most
"the Bucs and Mayfield’s camp were very far apart to begin with."
To begin with. We are nowhere near the beginning, but that part is seemingly ignored because SR also said this, again with people seemingly ignoring he first part (in bold) if the reported RUMOR is even true:
"Pewter Report is not sure which side made the initial offer – whether it was the Bucs or Mayfield’s agent, Jack Mills. But Mayfield’s camp opened negotiations with an offer rumored to be at $44 million per year."
The first part (in bold) matters because SR is allowing for the possibility that if the rumor is true it is possible THE BUCS lowballed Mayfield to start, which would mean a RUMORED $44 million counter was tit-for-tat . . . In other words, SR is allowing for the fact that IF $44 million was true it was an EQUALLY UNREASONABLE COUNTER to the team's initial lowball.
Who knows, but the Times reports that Mayfield's agent DENIES the $44 million claim. That means Stroud reached out to the agent and the agent said that did NOT happen. Either way though, to some Mayfield will be the villain all season long, no matter what.
oh adn . . yeah. . . Mayfield and Wirfs were with the Yankees having batting practice .. . .

McCown and Scotty Miller are reportedly a package deal
Its going to be a looonggg season on the Red Board if (when) they re-sign Mayfield lol
Depends on the deal.
If it’s reasonable (closer to the Geno deal than the Jones/Carr deal) then it should be no different than any other off-season.
At least it paints a clearer picture for FA and the draft.

Yeah, it’ll be the Boomer Sooner knobs saying he’s worth infinitely more.

It's hypocrital to support Mayfield getting a big contract and then crap on Darnold as being a far cheaper option. They were on the same team and Darnold looked infinitely better. It shows a lack of critical thinking.
