(when their QB isn’t married to a damn near billionaire lmao)

You’ve said that multiple times, like Brady isn’t worth mid-to-high 9 figures on his own.

noted. Agreed

my point is more so Brady is filthy rich and prioritized having better talent around him so would take below market contracts.

other QBs, including borrow and mahomes, are trying to build their generational wealth, whereas Brady already had it for at least the last 10 years of his career.

so for fans expecting somebody like mayfield to be like Brady and “walk on water” as it comes to taking less, I’d be surprised if he did that knowingly. Because quite frankly, none of us would either. Again - unless we are billionaires (with the supermodel rich wife)

The sticking point is probably the guaranteed money because as we saw with the Evans contract the team is okay with doing a shorter deal.  After watching guaranteed money be thrown around with Wilson and Watson I don't mind that Licht is digging his heels in when it comes to not dishing out too much guaranteed money.

I think she “retired” almost a decade ago.

probably made more retired than Tom as a working stiff

I would think that to most players it’s all about guaranteed money, less so to the agents lol

I think length and guaranteed amount are the big sticking points, though the per year amount can only be around $30M for the Bucs to go with it. There's been a lot of desperate GM's out there dishing out big contracts for so-so QB's and I can see at least one team being dumb enough to offer Baker a 4 year deal worth $35-40M a year with over half guaranteed. And if someone does...he's as good as gone. While I understand the Bucs' thought process on wanting him back, I wouldn't be sad at all if he left as we can pick up a lot of key pieces with the money that would be saved by not resigning him. I am fairly certain that Atlanta is the team that's going to be dumb enough to give him roughly what he wants, and the situation might be a lot more stable for him since the coaching staff is new, and I think Baker is looking for stability whether it's here or somewhere else. He doesn't want to play on a short contract again, as he needs to make his money now and recover his loses while he's under 30.

Wolford has done work with Liam Cohen and can run the offense from day one.  He will be a priority re-signing if the Bucs can not land a deal with Mayfield. With Trask and Wolford the Bucs can then explore their options adding a third QB and letting the best man win.

I would like to see Mayfield return as a Buc on a reasonable deal but the increased salary cap space has opened up more wheeling and dealing to happen this off season.  I guess we will find out more in the next 48 hours.

About 25 hours as of this post.  I don't think anything gets done before noon on Monday.  Mayfield is going to explore the market.  I don't blame him.  He played last year for relative peanuts and he deserves to be able to get the best deal he can.  I just don't know what teams are prepared to offer him a huge deal.  They're going to see what they can get and come back to the Bucs and try to get them to match it, but what if those offers don't materialize like they thought?  Then they don't have anything to bring back to the Bucs and Licht will be in the position of deciding whether to stick with whatever offer he had put on the table or to lower it.  It's not just risky for the Bucs.  It's risky for Baker as well.

I think there will be a market but the guaranteed money is going to scare most teams off.  But it only takes one team to go the "extra" distance with guaranteed money to change the free agent landscape.

“Sources: The Bucs are closing in on a deal with QB Baker Mayfield, helping Tampa Bay become home for their starter. He gets a 3-year deal worth $100M with $50M guaranteed.

The Bucs continue to work on keep their core.”

“BREAKING: The Bucs and QB Baker Mayfield have reached agreement on a 3-year, $100M contract extension, keeping him in Tampa Bay for years to come, per @RapSheet. Mayfield bet on himself, proved the doubters wrong again, and is now finally getting his big second contract.”

$50M (reportedly) guaranteed.

Don’t really have any thoughts until I see the actual breakdown.

But, my guess is 2-3 void years with a prorated signing bonus, keeping his cap hit down in Y1. And, a potential out after Y2 with a dead cap between $20-$25M.

“Still a lot of conjecture here, but if they do min base with the rest of the $30M as a prorated bonus and 2 void years…

2024: $6.9M
2025: $35.775M
2026: $45.775M
2027 (dead): $11.55M

Locked in to 24/25. Would be able to get out of 26 with $28.45M in savings and $17.325M dead.”
