Ah, sorry, no. Carr is not better than Baker in any meaningful way. I've had to watch Carr for nearly a decade now as a Chiefs fan, twice a year, several times live at the stadium over the last 5-6 years. Carr has more flaws than Baker, is less accurate overall, less touch, struggles with timing passes over the middle, really struggles in the RZ, and shrinks in the biggest moments of the biggest games. I thought he might grow under Gruden, or at least perform better in Gruden's run-centric offense, even bet $$$ on it, but that didn't happen either.
And Tannehill? He's a failed WR that happened to have decent arm strength. No real arm talent, though. He can't go through a 3-read progression with any consistency, doesn't read defensive alignments pre-snap at all. His entire game is completely based off Henry running the snot out of the ball, so he can run PA and he can do his one-two read thing. If he has to operate the offense without a run game, he's completely ineffective.
Those are very simple cherry picked stats MadDoc...but even as pro Ballerz bias I have, I understand the meaning in those 2 stats- Total Games played...Half, total Big games won, 2 to 1...but wait there's more- in HALF the time as Carr or Tannehill. JC I respect and enjoy your opinions, but...those stats are quite compelling, do you have counter-stats of more "meaning." THe only one higher would being owning a ring, otherwise, it hard to argue against just those 2 stat lines?
Mayfield must be a polarizing guy. We have life long Buccaneer fans rooting against him and therefore the team. A sad state of affairs. One of our most entertaining and successful seasons sans Brady in a long time and they couldn't even enjoy it and wanted to nitpick every little thing. At 4-7, ok, we were still in it and 100% of us were on board with one more loss, we see what the back-up 2nd rounder of 3 years has in him. But when the Bucs were on their win streak, they still couldn't stand it. Even delusional at 9-8, they muttered what good is playoffs if we lose in first round, then Bucs dominated their game. Didn't hear much push back after that, albeit still some delusional ass clowns wanting to move on from Baker.
They can't wait to see Bucs struggle and say "i told you so" or in a few years, "i just brought a car from Kyle Trask and if he was still in the league, he'd be doing better than Baker right now"
We potentially got our answer at QB. Is he Mahomes? No. Is he Lamar, Dak Prescott? Ehh no but apparently more clutch in the playoffs. He showed that in the playoffs, we can compete with playoff teams and not bad for year 1 post Brady. We'd be foolish not to be in the Baker Camp at a reasonable rate - $25m-$33M.

Whole lot of dumb in this post. Who was rooting against the Bucs? I sure as hell wasn't. I've just been telling you that Baker's not the ultimate answer. The whole problem with your thinking and others like you, is that you just want a QB that can more often than not get us a winning season. Baker may be able to do that, but his track record is mixed. There are those of us, however, who have watched this team through a couple of Super Bowls and a couple of seasons where we were competitive for one but didn't make it, and know that Baker is not the QB that can win us a Super Bowl unless we have an elite defense backing him up. The whole point of the game is to be a Super Bowl contender and win it if you get in. Some of us don't want to settle for just making the playoffs and getting knocked out before the conference championship on a yearly basis. We want to be more like the Chiefs, 49ers, the Brady Patriots, etc...

At the end of the day, even the majority of the Fan base doubt the arm talent. Thats really what it boils down to, disbelief that what they saw at GB, or at home vs the Iggles or away in the LIONS den. They have to marginalize the obvious arm talent rather than rethink their ingrained bias/Paradigm of thinking- that his arm (or brain-DOUBTFUL mI 2c) could really be that good, and perhaps with some help...even consistent!!!!. One of the things nobody really anticipates, but could be introduced for Baker or Mike, is that they use the franchise tag on them. Is the market really sizzling for either of them? Franchise / trade option comes into play. Someone wants to put up 40+ a year on Baker? OK gonna cost you a first rounder for 1 year / 37 .

Not smart to tag a QB, average is going to be approx $35m - 37m - you get nothing for it and ALL $37M counts against the cap... which means you can't sign Mike Evans or Antione Winfield, nor could you extend Wirffs or Vita. Thats not a smart move.
I used to know the slotting fees for every position, but I don't have the time anymore. I'd say tagging a safety or a LB'r is probably more realistic, buys some time and frees up more cap space.
With so many teams drooling over a starting QB with 2 playoff wins (with two different teams) under his belt, and average of $40m isn't out of the realm of possibility. Think of it as a sliding payscale and it is more cap friendly, as it allows us to concentrate on other players. Additionally, some cap room will be massaged by re-structuring current deals.
Paying Baker Mayfield isn't going to hurt you, NOT paying him relegates you to at least two years of misery, because we don't have a draft pick, and none of us are fond of Kirk Cousins.
Jason Licht and team are masters at this kind of stuff. They have done a solid re-build without blowing up the team after we lost a significant number of players after the GOAT retired.
I don't understand why people would want to give Baker a big contract when what he basically did was play well in his contract year. Plenty of players put up good numbers when they are up for a new contract, and that's what Baker did.
