NFC offensive player of the week goes to your Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting quarterback….
let’s hear it! Three cheers for Baker Mayfield.
hip hip…….
no cheering from Mike Evans I bet
the real challenge now will be for Mayfield to have a solid game against the Jags. Doesn’t have to match the Packers performance. Just solid.

Well i mean shit, would hope 4 TD passes and perfect passing rating isn't the new bar. Who is this guy? Al Bundy?
That would be pretty sweet but no honestly, he just needs to put the offense in a position to win.
That's likely 2 TD passes but leading the offense to 24-27 points.
You need to put up 30 points to consistently win in today's NFL.
this year's leaders in points per game - Miami (31.5), Dallas (30.8), 49ers (30.4), Baltimore (27.4) and Detroit (27.3). Buffalo at 27.1 and Philadelphia at 25.6 before it gets muddied up in the 21-22 points per game. All those teams are sure fire playoff teams except for Buffalo who is rolling right now.
in 2020, Bucs averaged 30.8 points per game. In 2021, 30.1 points per game. In 2022, 18.4 points per game. This year, 21.1 points per game but during this 3 game win streak - 28 points.
Offense needs to continue rolling if this team wants to make some noise...but let's not get too cocky, one game at a time
Jacksonville's defense is 29th vs passing yards/game. Baker has another opportunity to cook on Sunday. Not saying he'll have a perfect QB rating or pass for 4 TDs again, but I'm optimistic he'll have another good game and give the Bucs a chance for victory.
We'll see if he reverts to form or can continue to hit the open receivers. History says one thing. Hope says another. Based on the defense they're playing he better have a decent game at the very least. The Saints will be a better test of whether the offense has turned the corner (i.e. Baker is finally playing more at his ceiling), or if it was a product of the defenses being played.
I'll hope for the ceiling, but I've seen this crap way too many times over the years to not know better.

the dude is a top 15-18 QB. nothing more, nothing less.
has played well enough for this team to be 8-6 on a $4M contract. What a signing.
On pace to have his best year as a pro - projected at 29 TDs, 10 INT, 94.7% Rating, 4,025 yards with a 63.5% completion percentage. After all, this can easily be looked up and anyone with non biased football acumen could see it clear as day

I think in another thread you put up a pretty good timeline of Licht and his roller coaster in the draft. I havent had a chance to look more deeply but with your comments on the Mayfield signing, I wonder if part of Licht's approach is following the path of the coaching? So, some of his inconsistency is tied to trying to sere whatever the coach is looking for?
Not at all trying to excuse his flops, but someone like White, as an example, seemed to be Arians/Bowles, going by the way Arians spoke of him. Mayfield is another interesting one because, as you say he is a great signing. But, part of that is that he is a perfect fit for the Canales offense, so is he a post-Canales decision by Bowles/Canales pushed for or was he a Licht signing all the way and it just turned out well?
BUT YES to your point Mayfield has been an absolute steal from a value and expectation standpoint. Either way, whether Licht is serving the coaching or just a very inconsistent drafter he gets (understandably) called out for the Trask pick, but not really credited for the Mayfield signing. Called out for the White pick, but not really credted for brning in Arians and Brady. It seems like GMs are judged mostly by their draft and not their overall player-personnel impact
Mayfield is playing within Canales system so far so good.
He isn't pressing too much which is what Bowles and Canales want to see.
He’s looking good , his deep balls are a thing of beauty. Baker is a gamer out there , whatever it takes guy , he’s seeing things well

"If you would’ve told any Bucs fan before 2023 that Mayfield would have this club at 8-7, they’d be happy.
That wasn’t an “efficient win.” That was a blowout. The Bucs led 30-0 before taking their foot off the pedal.
If Mayfield can lead the Bucs to two more wins, 10 for the regular season, Joe doesn’t know how Mayfield isn’t a serious candidate for “Comeback Player of the Year.”
Dave Canales has revived Baker Mayfield: What Mayfield has done the last two weeks has been Pro Bowl worthy, a small sample size of how productive he has been all season. Mayfield has completed 64.8% of his passes for 3,598 yards with 26 touchdowns to eight interceptions for a 96.2 passer rating -- and this is the 49th-highest paid quarterback in the NFL! Mayfield has completed 76.3% of his passes for 664 yards with six touchdowns to zero interceptions and a 141.2 passer rating over the past two weeks as his maturation in Canales' offense has come full circle. The Buccaneers found their long-term quarterback.

it's going to be the feel good story of Damar Hamlin. NFL will get a few emotional tears on that one....ahh booo hooo...how great!
but in any event, yes should be Baker Mayfield. Joe Flacco and Matt Stafford also making a case.
Flacco has only played 4 games but the Browns are 3-1 and he has 10 TD passes in that span. They were left for dead and he has taken them to the playoffs
Mayfield has taken "a didnt care this year Bucs front office" with 75 million in dead cap space and potentially has defeated the Saints who dished out loads of cash to Carr to win the division. Mayfield on his 4th team in a year, having a great year - top 12 in yards passing, top 6 in TD passes, and top 9 in rating
Stafford should also be considered how the Rams buzzing. Probably the only team i would bet can beat the 49ers in the playoffs.

Damar Hamlin died on the field last season.
Matt Stafford was put on IR last season.
Joe Flacco was out of football until Thanksgiving.
What exactly is Baker Mayfield coming back from? I'm not addressing his or anybody else's play on the field as to who deserves the award more based on their play. But what is he coming back from? I would tend to think it should go one of those other guys over somebody who has simply performed better than he did last season.
Didn't Geno Smith win a comeback award last year?
Didn't Geno Smith win a comeback award last year?
Geno Smith had not been a starting QB in the NFL since 2014. He made 5 starts in the 6 seasons between his last starting gig with the Jets in 2014 and his current starting gig with the Seahawks that began in 2022. He qualified for the award.
String-post away, nutbag.
