If you annualized his current numbers over a full season, he would have something like 5,560 yards, 42 TD's (28 picks...ouch) and a 13-4 record.
Not too shabby for a guy pushing 40 and who was sitting on the couch a little more than a month ago.

Flacco has only played 4 games but the Browns are 3-1 and he has 10 TD passes in that span. They were left for dead and he has taken them to the playoffs
Mayfield has taken "a didnt care this year Bucs front office" with 75 million in dead cap space and potentially has defeated the Saints who dished out loads of cash to Carr to win the division. Mayfield on his 4th team in a year, having a great year - top 12 in yards passing, top 6 in TD passes, and top 9 in rating
Stafford should also be considered how the Rams buzzing. Probably the only team i would bet can beat the 49ers in the playoffs.
Damar Hamlin died on the field last season.
Matt Stafford was put on IR last season.

What exactly is Baker Mayfield coming back from? I'm not addressing his or anybody else's play on the field as to who deserves the award more based on their play. But what is he coming back from? I would tend to think it should go one of those other guys over somebody who has simply performed better than he did last season.
but that's not how it always works. Yes a lot of times it's injury but also there's when a guy was basically a back-up or benched and revived his career:
Geno Smith was a back-up previously or hence sucked for the last decade, and he won it last year
Ryan Tannehill won it back in 2019 and again was just shit with Miami but won the award in his first year with Tennessee
Philip Rivers won it back in 2013 and i have no idea why He played all 16 games in 2012. Better numbers but 2012 wasn't the worst for him
it this particular case, there isn't much competition for Mayfield other than politics i would suppose
feel good story for the practice squad guy that died makes for a hallmark storyline for NFL. So Hamlin will get it but throw out the guy that will be out of the NFL in a year or two; let's talk about actually deserving guys.

I'm aware. The award is usually given to someone who is returning from injury and playing very well. But that's not always the case, as there isn't always somebody that is returning from a serious injury while playing well - which is what happened with both Rivers and Tannehill.
Geno Smith didn't just play well after sucking for a season. Geno Smith was a backup for 6 seasons before taking over as starter, leading the entire NFL in completion percentage, and going to the Pro Bowl. That's a tad different than Mayfield.

That's pretty laughable. Take the dude that died out of the equation. The differences between Mayfield and Stafford this season have been negligible. You act as if Mayfield is a no-doubter, but he should not be given the COMEBACK POtY award over a guy that missed half the 2022 season and went on IR vs. a dude that bounced around to three different teams because of poor play.

If there weren't other candidates that didn't die, go on the IR last season, or get a forced-retirement for most of this year, I would agree with you. But reality does exist.
And I don't hate Baker Mayfield. I actually like him (good leader and teammate) quite a bit, but I also have eyes. He has been consistently inconsistent for the overwhelming majority of his career. That doesn't make me a hater because I acknowledge reality. Another part of acknowledging reality is that he's played very, very well the last two weeks. You see how that works?
Mayfield is a long shot for sure but the award is not just for injury comeback (the point of the prior Geno Smith post lol). But, because everyone likes posts of external sources:

There are no Trask fans because we've never see him play. In the middle of the season Baker was playing like trash and the Bucs were losing. Baker is playing well but he's also getting elite pass protection and very good WR play. Whatever sacks we're seeing are generally on him. Yea perfect QB rating vs GB but he got stripped waiting for the safety to vacate the middle of the field so he can throw a 60 post jump ball to Evans instead of just hitting White for 3 yards. But that shows up in the stats as a Goedeke error. Nitpicking, ok. But we're not going to be playing the Packers in the playoffs.
We've seen this before in 2016. It's nice but the clock will strike midnight at some point. Bucs will re-sign everyone using void years and SR will declare Greenberg a cap guru. We'll do exactly what Seattle did with Smith and what Tennessee did with Tannehill and get the same results.

took some time even for the great Tom Brady to adjust to the Bucs back in 2020. If you recall, they were 7-5, he being the goat has 28 touchdowns and 11 INTs (but to note 2 games included a 9 TD, 1NT performance). Bucs then went on a 4-0 run, 12 TDs to 1 INT performance by Brady against 4 shit teams
Bucs are 8-7. And yes Baker was playing ELITE like the last 2 weeks. Hell, if he does that, and this team puts up 30 a game; we can make a serious run. The Bucs favored against Carolina but underdogs the last 3 wins.
i think the bar or expectations for baker were much lower than a Tom Brady or this ELITE current level unfortunately
be awesome for it to continue but the dude likely comes a little back down to earth which again could be 20 points per game; to me not good enough to win a superbowl but good enough to compete

Mullen saw Franks winning the team and the practice field, but was forced to play Trask when Franks got injured during the Kentucky game. Trask came in, lit it up, and Franks moved on to Arkansas because Trask had a lock on that spot from then on. Some guys just don't look the part in practice. Some practice like Tarzan and play like Jane
