Bad game all around. You also could say the defense killed the Bucs. They let the Saints take the opening kickoff and put the Bucs in a 7-0 hole. And they couldn't get off the field on several key third downs to help put the Bucs in a deeper hole. This game was essentially over at halftime. Sure, there was another half to play, but they weren't coming back the way they were playing on both sides of the ball.
Games like this are why I gave Mayfield his dues begrudgingly. He does this. He has a couple of games where he looks like a world beater then turns around and shits the bed. He held the ball on a lot of plays and dumped it off a lot on third and longs. Then, during garbage time, he makes a run at it. I will grant, though, that Canales didn't do him any favors with the runs on second and long, though he may have seen issues with Mayfield passing early and wanted to minimize it. I don't know, I just know we need to stop doing that. In any case, we should beat the Panthers next week. Then, we'll likely get killed in the playoffs by the Eagles. Joy. It's a Bucs life.
Baker was off most of the game but the offensive playcalling didn’t help. It was like having Lefty back: HB draws on first and second and then a predictible throw on third and long. I don’t know what that crap was we were forced to watch today.
You guys can blame everyone else all you want but the QB stinks and you saw why he's been bouncing all over the league. The last couple weeks he made a killing off of his first or second read being open. Saints took it away and he looked like 3rd string QB.
If you watched that game and your LEAD response is "Baker" you don't understand football at all

bouncing around the league is a lazy statement.
lets still down on that kind sir. He was traded from Cleveland to Carolina in what? July, August?
how much time is that to learn a playbook? Would you suggest if he was traded in March he’d have a better opportunity? If not, now let’s ask the same question if it were Luke McCown.
Carolina fired coach, traded assets such as CMAC and Anderson and alas Mayfield signed with injury riddled Rams. Rams, already had their starting QB alas Mayfield became a free agent
”nobody wanted mayfield in free agency” - replace mayfield with Brady back in 2020 and again you see that statement is worthless
so rather than bounce around, you can say “been on 4 teams in a year” but it’s not like he’s Ryan Fitzpatrick.
He is what he is, a mid level starter who will get mid level starter money ($25m per year)
he is having his best year as a pro (look it up) and has proven enough to be resigned
now, if Bucs lose this week, you would think a change is coming but to blame all of yesterday on Baker, makes me curious if you watch the game. When your 80 year old grandma can predict the run, what makes you think opposing defenses can’t?
Of the teams that started QBs this week. Let’s play a game: who would they rather have?
and this is strictly based off play, not madden franchise or contract situation
keep their current QB:
eagles, cowboys, Lions, 49ers, rams, buffalo, Miami, chiefs, ravens, jaguars (will assume Lawrence was guy), Texans
Go with baker:
Washington, giants, Vikings, bears, Arizona, Carolina, Atlanta, New England, jets, raiders, broncos, chargers, Steelers, bengals, titans,
Toss up:
packers, Seahawks, New Orleans, colts, browns
so that’s 15 that would take baker, 11 that would keep their guy, and 5 that it’s a question.
again, mid tier QB who can be anywhere from 12 to 18.
If you watched that game and your LEAD response is "Baker" you don't understand football at all
I’m with this football savant. Only a fool would blame the QB for a poor offensive performance, which included some horrendous checks, and playing like shit for three quarters. We all know QB’s rarely get the credit when things go great or any of the blame when things suck. Those that understand football know these things, people.
Why some of you continue to defend Baker is beyond me. Are you his relative? Best friend? It is what it is. He's a guy that looks like a first round QB from time to time, but reverts back to average or mediocre for most of the time he plays. He's had a habit this year of padding his stats in the 4th quarter after playing like crap for 3. This pattern has been fairly consistent. I was beginning to think, after 2 straight solid outings, that maybe he might have finally broken through this type of play, then he goes out there and plays like he did yesterday. Shame on me for being fooled, but I did place caveats on what I thought. The only way he can be the guy, is if he can get on a long enough hot streak to push us through the Super Bowl. He has yet to show us that he can do that.
Why some of you continue to defend Baker is beyond me.
This ^^^ is the way of a football message board.
Cant overcome the reasonable counter argument ("Bucs beaten on multiple fronts") so put others into a bucket ("saying 'Bucs beaten on multiple fronts" means you're defending Baker").
From a Trask supporter, no less. The posters WITH the agenda . . .
Last year, anyone who pointed out the Bucs' other deficiencies -- especially, if you pointed out Brady's role -- was a "Leftwich supporter." BWAAAHHHH. Well, "a god damn, sob, Leftwich supporter"... actually
Football is a team sport. If you watched yesterday's game and PRIMARY blame in your mind is on Mayfield you don't understand football
(OR YOU'RE A TRASK SUPPORTER . . . see what I did there?)
I'm pretty sure nobody puts the blame all on Baker. But he did his part in helping us lose with the first pick he threw early in the game on an underthrown pass that should have been a TD. The defense struggled to hold ground yesterday, but they did give our team some stops and allow our offense a chance to hang with them, and yet the offense failed. Some of that is play calling, some of it is the performance of individuals on offense, but a good chunk is Baker's inability to find the seams before they were covered and let the ball go. He held the ball way too long, way too often, and the Saints' cloud coverage was able to make the throws difficult for him. If he was better able to read and rip, he would have let the passes go when they should have when the receiver was in a very brief window of being open. That deep ball over the middle to Evans where he hung up on throwing it then let it go late is par for the course of what he does. Evans expected the ball and started looking around only to realize too late that Baker threw the ball late.
Oh, and I'm pretty sure Brady would have played better in this offense than the one we ran last year. Every defense knew how to defend all the choice routes and what the keys were. Guys like Evans only got open from outright beating their man. This year they're schemed open a lot more. So Leftwich, without Arians as a fallback, sucked. Canales is going to be a much better OC long term than Leftwich, but is still a work in progress.
I'm pretty sure nobody puts the blame all on Baker. But he did his part in helping us lose
So did Winfield and Stinnie and White and Palmer and both lines. And CANALES. The Saints defensive game plan was nothing special. Stop the run, bracket Evans.
I also didn't say "all" I said LEAD response.
One of your other Trask buddies is HILARIOUSLY crediting as CORRECT one of the most ridiculous arguments you read from NON "football savants" (too much credit/blame for QB"). LMAO. Thats like saying "leave us alone because we are just being dumb . . like the people we mock as dumb"
I'm pretty sure Brady would have played better in this offense than the one we ran last year.
Brady would have NEVER come back if the Bucs were hiring a rookie OC in the offseason and IF HE DID you're suggesting that Brady would have ACCEPTED all those run plays that are the cornerstone of Canales offense?
COME
ON
MAN
Football is NOT played by machines. The GREATNESS of a Brady did not exist in a vacuum. It was ALSO a significant part of the problem last year. From coming back late, to control of the offense that was 66/33 pass to run, with him DUMPING the ball off faster than ever and EVANS basically disappearing . . . again . . IN AN OFFENSE WHERE HE DEVELOPED THE GAMEPLANS
Bucs lost by 10 points
White and palmer fumbles within 30 yard line - would have been anywhere from 6-14 points
baker INTs were at what Bucs 45 and saints 36. Could argue anywhere from 3-7 points left on the board
all turnovers are bad but baker hardly main reason
and in terms of baker winning superbowl? Who the hell thinks that? Us “baker bros” are suggesting he’s a top 15 QB and can keep us competitive
what QBs can win a superbowl currently in the league? Mahomes. Allen. Jackson. Burrow. Rodgers. Stafford.
am I missing anyone not on a stacked team? (Purdy, hurts)
maybe Prescott?
Anyway the point is less than 10. Find me that QB. I will tell you building the team up from mid level talent to top 10 talent, then draft a guy and we have a good chance to find that qb
Look...The QB position is the most highly paid position of all of football for a reason. It's the most important one on the field. The play of the QB can determine so many things that goes on, including when to stick to the play that was called, or audible out. We were down just 7 after forcing a punt. We get a little drive going by hitting Evans on a big play, and then Baker throws a pick. That eliminates our score and puts our defense right back on the field. Was it the playcall that was the issue? No. Was it the offensive line? No. Was it our defense on that play? Of course not, they're on the bench. Was it the Head Coach? Nope. The OC? Nada. It was ALL ON BAKER. PERIOD. That one play put us in a much bigger hole and led to us losing. The cascading effects of not scoring there and putting our defense right back on the field is part of the equation. Had Baker thrown a TD there instead...I think we could have ended up winning the game. It gave the Saints defense life and it showed for the rest of the half and into the third quarter. His play doesn't happen in a vacuum. It affects multiple aspects of the team. Why do you think Brady won so often?
That is why we put this much emphasis on Baker's play. It's football 101.
