His td stats are padded from the 1-2 yard line, and today is just so sad being a division win vs a team not playing for anythnig. I like the guy but give me Penix or trask

If Bowles stays, baker stays

if Bowles goes, baker is competing with potential signing of Russell Wilson or Kirk cousins

thats what we are looking at in terms of starters next year

With Bucs making playoffs, I have a hard time seeing them fire Bowles

offense looked brutal today and baker did not do anything to scream confidence in a 3 year 75 million dollar deal

Playoff game may be important to see how the offense performs in terms of a baker deal

i don’t see why we wouldn’t offer a 1 year 25 million dollar deal given the last 2 weeks. But how much of this shit performance today was injury? Who knows

Isn’t penix closing in on 30? No thanks

Trask? Come on dude. All for improving over baker, but that will be another veteran or maybe and I say maybe a first round rookie under the age of 25

For Baker to stay you have to obtain some beef in the center.  Can't roll out there with lightweights in that center of the OL with a QB that short.

we should improve that interior regardless

If Canales stays and wants to run, might as well make running the ball effective

white is good but yeah let’s get a center and guard

Stop already , baker is the reason this team won 9 games . I think he deserves a 3 year deal , and Bucs should still draft a QB imo

He's a bridge QB.  I expect the Bucs to take a QB in the 1st or 2nd round but also sign Baker to a reasonable deal.

The free agent QB shopping spree will happen before the draft, but the draft will still heavily affect that market.  There are going to be five or six teams including the Bucs who would prefer to find their future starting QB in the draft along with the rookie salary scale they come with.  IMO teams aren't going to want to fork over the big dollars that would commit the team to having Baker be the QB of the future any more than the Bucs want to.

So what is a bridge QB for one to two years worth?  It's not going to be cheap, but it will not put the Bucs in a cap bind.  I'd say $20 to $25 mil per year for two or three years but about $25 to $30 mil guaranteed.  So when you only guarantee $25 to $30 mil that's really like one year guaranteed and the Bucs could move on after a year.

So yes I think the Bucs will keep Mayfield and draft their QB of the future to sit on the bench for a year.   What would change that is if Mayfield can pull off a playoff victory.

Baker has shown me nothing that I haven't seen before from him.  He is just a stop gap until the Bucs can improve the team for a younger QB to take charge.

Also Trask has one year left on his contract so the Bucs probably will try a three pronged approach by re-signing Mayfield, keeping Trask and a draft a QB.

Yeah it is obvious that the Bucs have to address interior OL for Canales offense to work.  Also, the Bucs need to draft a more dynamic TE to pair with Otton.  That would really complete Canales approach on offense.

such a good thread title but your recommendation for his replacement is atrocious

trask is not an option. Not now. Not in 2024.

just isn’t going to happen. The Bucs front office and coaching staff don’t respect him as an option. Let it go

so our options

1. Baker

2. cousins

3. wilson

4. Fields

Options 2 and 3 may be better than baker but also may cost more

4 is not guaranteed to be better than baker but maybe got potential

Williams, maye and Daniel’s will be taken in first 10 picks

no need to waste a pick on a first rounder

so yes, let’s replace baker but have an answer to replace him, not some career backup who may never see the field again

Obviously impossible to diagnose Mayfield without being in his head, but his slow starts matched with 4th qtr comebacks make it seem like he needs to get out of his own head and just throw the damn ball

who knows though
