Stroud just got to his 3rd read in a messy pocket. That’s something Baker can’t do but isn’t talked about. It’s what separates QBs
Greg Cosell is talking about it
" [Mayfield has] been up and down at times,” Cosell said, as he used film to highlight his talking points. “Not only this year but throughout his career.
“But he has been very good on third down this year. And he has shown the ability to go through his progressions and read coverage.”

Go to 2:25 and you'll see Greg Cosell dispel some of the Baker "cant get through progressions or read defenses" posted here. Its a pas splay against the Titans with a LATE change of defense that takes away his primary read (Godwin on the PLAY side). He recognizes and goes back to the FIELD side and hits Evans who is on a DIG

And if you look at the play you will see Palmer clear out the safety basically NEVER LOOKING BACK AT THE BALL. When the pass is thrown to Evans Palmer is on top of the safety, so if he open? sure. Almost no field left and he is SLOWING DOWN (ie he knows his role was mostly just to clear the DIG.)
if you keep watching you will see and hear a play that is a coverage sack in the Eagles game

Sharp discussing the matchup by looking at the stats since Thanksgiving
Yds/Att Baker: 7.7 (#13) Jalen: 6.5 (#29)
Comp % Baker: 64% (#20) Jalen: 61% (#32)
EPA/Att Baker: 0.09 (#15) Jalen: 0.04 (#18)
TD% Baker: 6.0% (#8) Jalen: 3.8% (#22)
These here are sum FACTS, pertinent facts presented by Blayton comparing Baker to Hurts THIS SEASON, who gives a sh about the past right now anyway!!!! This should in theory help refine the hypothetical conjecture of others, primarily those who still doubt Baker in on the Eve on his first PLAYOFF GAME WITH THE BUCS IN HIS FIRST SEASON!!!!
Then Blayton presents a pseudo abstract form of evidence by providing a "leader/expert" in the field and professional analysis. Agree with it or not, he's the one getting paid to do these analysis anyway- swings and misses come with the territory. Anyhoo. Good stuff, good way for formulate an argument!!!! Now wait for a civil response or walk away from the post entirely.
As for Baker, can we at least let him suit up tomorrow and play before we continue beating a dead horse into the ground. Tomorrow will be the next "first" game that Baker plays for The Bucs, at least let him show himself. If we win, we win, if we lose, we lose. What I really want to see, and will consider a victory on my terms is. Effort. No effort = burn it down. Lots of EFFORT!!!!! Keep moving forward one step at a time, one inch at a time, one blade of grass at a time. What else can anyone in the entire world do aside from move forward. Unless someone has figured out how to time travel, forward is the only way we can perceive time soooooo....walk forward. taht is all/ Im out!!!
Ramon B 1981 GOOO BUCS!!!!
How about just a game day thread that isn’t infected by Trask fans posting things like “nice scramble Baker, probably has 3 receivers open” lol
its the playoffs!

How bout just a game day thread that isnt INFECTED. Is that too hard??? Is it so impossible to creat a drama free thread for tomorrow. Uhm, I CAN DO THAT IN 2 Seconds. Just refresh and save it marked for tomorrow. Ill probably be the only one in that thread, and it will indeed be free from drama. All are welcome, but one BS post and just dont even bother opening it. Friends and nobodies alike are welcome to discuss the football plays as they happen and give 1st impressions/feelings on how that particular play played itself out. Alright time to create a board space that is not infected in 2 secs. Tootaloo Bishes!!! See yall tomorrow. Im out for the night in about 2-3 secs.
See you tomorrow

Agreed.
We should have one that requires breathalyzers.
That would remove the real infection.
If the Bucs take care of business, we could actually be looking at dodging San Fran for at least a week.

It's not like he can't, on occasion, get through his reads. It's his consistency. He tends to lock onto a player. He also tends to be a little slow going through them, and gets gun shy at times when a guy isn't clearly open in an area he prefers to throw to. Then he turns around and throws it right to a fully covered guy and has a DB drop the ball.
It's the inconsistency. He's had games where he's played elite. He's capable of it. But those are rare, and he plays so up and down. You need consistency to consistently win in the NFL, which should be obvious.

Obviously just a guess, but I think because this is a BIG contract year for him it seems like he goes out of his way to TRY to play within the confines of the offense, meaning throwing WITH TIMING where he play is designed (to avoid INTs and gunslinger image). In the Packer game he does this perfectly and everything clicks. A couple of days ago he said one of the things he needs to do BETTER in this game today is basically get the offense in a rhythm by taking the easy completion early.
Three things though on the reading and going through progressions:
1) Cosell identifies it as a skill, not something he did once or even occasionally
2) Conversely, the criticism of him on the board has been that he CANNOT do it. I think JC (hilariously) says this is what separates him from another QB
3) if you listen to Canales, he adjusted his offense in many ways. One way was, according to him, TAKE ADVANTAGE of what he's sees as Mayfield's skill which he describes as being an "in rhythm thrower . . see field, drop and hit back foot . . throw." Mayfield does that a lot, for sure. Obviously all first read. He says he needs to do it more (above). I agree.
POINT . . . there are reasonable, football-related ways to describe both his flaws and his skills, but most of the stuff posted here is hyperbolic, he's a completely incompetent REJECT . . . when his stats are better than Brady's and he's in the top of the league this year.
When that point is made the response - heavily from Trask supporters - is always something like "its just Canales offense" or "the other QBs in the league suck" LMAO

This is his career up until this year. He had a good year this year, I believe it was his best. More and more, I'm getting the feeling we are going to see if he can duplicate it next year. As a Bucs fan, I hope so.

I think you are right and I hope so too.
I also have my doubts.
Not to overplay the point, but I mentioned above that his own critique of the recent offensive struggles was, in part, that he needs to throw the easy pass early to get the offense in a rhythm, like he's saying he has to overcome his own desire to sling it, make a big play.
Canales' offense is definitely designed to have the QB as a point guard. This was one thing that Russell Wilson did not like. Sounds like mayfield might not like it that much either.

Exactly.
I mean, I saw Mahomes throw the football with his left hand once in a playoff game; so clearly he can play QB at a high level as a lefty, right?

I see Java has started hitting the bottle early.
He's now entered the "I'm a Saint, Not a Troll" category of inebriation.
Essentially, the Bryson DeChambeau of the board (albeit if Bryson blew a 1.76 on a breathalyzer).
