I’ve posted a couple times and believe that the Bucs are best served by Trask being a hidden, underutilized talent. Hope he is. The Bucs, including Canales, don’t seem to think he is a starter. They may all be wrong.
That's if you believe he has talent.
yes, exactly.
all the Trask supporters here certainly think he is talented.
he may be but the Bucs don’t seem to see him as talented enough to be a starter. That is the reporting and that is what their actions say.
Thats not on Mayfield.
That's not on the coaches
Thats on Trask.
th best thing for the Bucs is for their second round pick to be a baller

Was it on Purdy that San Fran didn't start him until the two guys before him went down? The simple reality is, must coaching staffs would have tried Trask out when the team was in the midst of losing a bunch of games and going under .500. We didn't because Bowles does stupid shit when it comes to letting other players have a chance to play in front of the guys he deemed to be the starters. This is a coach issue and not a QB issue. And I would remind folks that Trask is being looked down upon for the same reasons he was at Florida. It took Franks getting injured for him to get a chance to start, and he lit it up. Mullen probably felt like an idiot after the fact. The big thing is Trask was rumored to have been better in camp at UF as well, but Franks was the rah rah guy that got the teammates fired up and was all buddy buddy with. Come to think of it, that sounds like Jameis as well. Funny how the guys that are all rah rah tend to not be all that great in the NFL.
It's going to take an injury to Baker for Trask to get in there. But once he does, I'm about 80% confident he won't ever give the job back up, and I think Baker knows that, which is why he played Sunday despite the fact he damn well knew he was to banged up to get any zip on the ball (no completions over 10 yards). I've seen nothing in Trask's play in the pre-season that tells me he couldn't play better than Baker did the other day. Remember, Trask was averaging around 13 yards per catch vs. Baker's roughly 8 during the preseason. Baker has played all year pretty much the same as he did in the preseason. Three and out...three and out...hey some points...three and out...three and out.
:eyeroll
Cousins is 35, coming off a season ending injury and the Vikes say they intend to bring him back.
Wilson is 167 yrs old and was washed up 4 years ago. He's so bad they're going to eat 10's of millions just to be rid of him. He's also a self centered head case
Nix is from Tampa... LET'S DRAFT HIM~!
Never mind they don't play D in the Pac 12... and always fold when they do play one
Some of you guys are as homerific as OSU fan pimping Troy Smith for #1 when he went in the 4th
You need a LG, a C and a playmaking TE who can run and another edge rusher<-----UCLA
Palmer is worthless and has dropped or fumbled away 2 TD's. Pick up a FA with hands. Guys who can't catch never ever learn how to
You need another RB. A guy who makes his own holes and can beat people up
For damn sure you need at least 1 new DB.... Bucs beat Houston if not for the suckatude at that position giving up monster plays to uncovered WR's and a Rookie QB
Edge
DB
WR
G
RB
You should sign Baker and Evans for 3. Draft the next QB in 27 if Mayfield doesn't work out... but I doubt it
Evans won't want to be here to play with a Rookie QB and he deserves the Larry Fitzgerald here for life treatment until he wants to retire
Oh please the Pac12 was elite this year. We will see how mighty the BIG (16?) is this year when actual offenses come to play.
I think Trask could play up to Mayfield's level as a pro.
Like I said many times before it didn't matter which QB you start and I still feel that way on wild card weekend. Heck even Wolford could start and win (playoff) games in Canales offense system. The true improvement for Mayfield comes from less turnovers and slightly higher completion percentage if you look at his career stats. All his other stats are nearly identical to his career averages.
Which is good that Canales has actually honed Mayfield's talent. But I wouldn't be sure the Bucs are going to hitch their wagon long term to Mayfield based on that. With that said Mayfield's pre snap reads of the mike and safeties is improved which was a big factor for having so many turnovers earlier in his career. Along with faster release under Canales tutelage and Mayfield is improved no doubt. But I think that Trask or Wolford could obtain similar production.

Ignore the old man Browns fan, yelling for people to get off his lawn.
Bucs currently picking at 20
1. Chicago may be going QB
2. Washington definitely going QB
3. New England definitely going QB
8. Atlanta might go with veteran or draft a QB
10. Jets depend on Aaron Rodgers coming back
11. Minnesota depends on Kirk Cousins coming back
12. Denver might be going QB
13. Vegas might be going QB
16. Seattle could be going QB
so could 5 QBs go ahead of our pick?
That he is. He is limited. Shouldn't be looked at as anything more than a bridge QB.
Yeah I don't see Penix getting to us... and as a Ducks fan I love what Nix did... but I'm not sold on him in the pros.
But he is very accurate and reads defenses well... he's not as mobile as people say...
He'd be a good 2nd round pick but he won't last that long.
So I think we are stuck with Baker, guys

This is why a forward looking organization would have went with Trask, especially if they were close in camp and pre-season. If Trask played great, they would know they likely have their long term answer. If he sucked, the team would have lost more games and we'd be in a better position to draft a QB. Instead, we have a mediocre-average QB squeaking us into the playoffs where we have a good chance of being one and done. This should have been a year to reset the long term but it turned into a "save Bowles job" year.
I can only imagine what it's like to be a franchise that drafts a QB that can help them be playoff competitive for a decade or more. It's a Bucs life.
Anyone thinking Bo Nix is going to be a good QB is going to be fooled.
For QB's:
1st in YAC
52 completion % on throws of 20+ yards
Average depth of target: 6.7 yards
SOS: 62nd
System QB to the fullest, and will be a BUST in the NFL. We already have a Baker Mayfield on the roster, we don't need another guy who needs perfect pocket to hit consistently.
And I love Michael Penix but I don't think he will go top 10 anymore. Although I think he SHOULD based off his QBing ability its the other things teams will have second thoughts on. Medical history, age, and how he played in that championship game. I remember Justin Fields was supposed to be the second QB taken after Trevor Law but teams were weary after his last game. I think he falls, not sure where but it wouldn't shock me if he's there top of the second round based on how teams love to draft guys off age and potential and not high floor guys.

Quite the hyperbole. I don't want us to draft him either but he was very good with the deep ball for us. PFF rated him highly for deep ball throws if I'm not mistaken.
And he's accurate so everyone saying he's a check down merchant well... yes and no. When you hit people perfectly in stride there will be a lot of YAC.
Sos 62? Dude the pac12 was elite this year. Give me a break. Not our fault USC faltered. We beat everyone and lost to Washington twice by a combined 6 points and he played great in those games.
But still, I don't want Nix in the first... I'm sure he's light years better than Trask tho.

Seems like you just have an east coast bias if you ask me.
Pac12 QBs have a history of success... this whole "they play soft defenses" crap usually blows up in your face in the NFL.
Penix history is a concern for sure... so if he falls because of that he's worth the risk. He throws a beautiful ball.

yeah but that theory of “tank” went out the window when they signed baker mayfield. So the fact that certain fans such as yourself have been moaning about it for 10 months is mind boggling.
plus the fact that Bucs made playoffs was a successful year. I much rather have watched a 9 win playoff season than a 4 win trask season.
great get a top 5 pick where there’s a 90% chance we get a Zach Wilson, Trey lance, or Bryce young; 9% chance we get a Trevor Lawrence or Kyle Murray (are their team’s perennial playoff teams?)
and than that 1% chance we get that guy you are talking about - Mahomes, burrow, Allen, Jackson
enjoy the ride!
