Ain't no east coast bias here buddy. I live in Southern California and have been here since 2017 so I watch a ton of Pac 12 ball. And I love Michael Penix but I don't think he will go top 10 anymore. Although I think he SHOULD based off his QBing ability its the other things teams will have second thoughts on. Medical history, age, and how he played in that championship game. I remember Justin Fields was supposed to be the second QB taken after Trevor Law but teams were weary after his last game. I think he falls, not sure where but it wouldn't shock me if he's there top of the second round based on how teams love to draft guys off age and potential and not high floor guys.
Seems like you just have an east coast bias if you ask me.
Pac12 QBs have a history of success... this whole "they play soft defenses" crap usually blows up in your face in the NFL.
Penix history is a concern for sure... so if he falls because of that he's worth the risk. He throws a beautiful ball.
I don't use conferences to judge qb's. Herbert, Allen, Lamar Jackson and Mahomes are proof you don't have to draft a QB that plays in the SEC to be very good.
I'd add CJ Stroud to that list too
I think highly of Caleb Williams who I think is a hair overrated as a prospect. The thing that separates him from the rest of the class is his ability to escape, and improvising when things break down and are initially covered. He gets through his progressions FAST. Penix doesn't have those tools but he's very good thrower and processor. I'd gladly take him in the first round. Too bad I know how NFL GM's tend to overthink things and go for the young, more upside player because he has a higher ceiling.
PFF doesn't have Box Nix in the top 10 of "big time throws", but rest assured, Williams and Maye are sitting there.Anyone thinking Bo Nix is going to be a good QB is going to be fooled.
For QB's:
1st in YAC
52 completion % on throws of 20+ yards
Average depth of target: 6.7 yards
SOS: 62nd
System QB to the fullest, and will be a BUST in the NFL. We already have a Baker Mayfield on the roster, we don't need another guy who needs perfect pocket to hit consistently.
Quite the hyperbole. I don't want us to draft him either but he was very good with the deep ball for us. PFF rated him highly for deep ball throws if I'm not mistaken.
And he's accurate so everyone saying he's a check down merchant well... yes and no. When you hit people perfectly in stride there will be a lot of YAC.
Sos 62? Dude the pac12 was elite this year. Give me a break. Not our fault USC faltered. We beat everyone and lost to Washington twice by a combined 6 points and he played great in those games.
But still, I don't want Nix in the first... I'm sure he's light years better than Trask tho.
Yeah its quite difficult to hit people in stride when you throwing it 6 yards past the LOS, bravo. Especially when you have a pretty good OL!

No he sucks because he played in the pac12. That's why Nix and Penix aren't good so let's apply it to everyone.
And again I'm skeptical of Nix. But look at his deep ball grade. He was good. You take what the defense gives you....unless you want another aimless Jameis

I don't have PFF but late in the season they showed a stat about Nix deep ball passing and it was I believe first in the pac12. Obviously he threw it less because Ducks are run heavy and west Coast style... I think he was also 26 TDs to 2 INTs on throws over 15 yards.
You didn't watch the Ducks... and as I said I'm not wanting Nix, so don't staw man this.
Of course I'd take Maye, Penix, Williams over him. He's way better than JJ... Id take him as a 2nd round pick but def not in the 1st where he will get drafted.
yeah but that theory of “tank” went out the window when they signed baker mayfield. So the fact that certain fans such as yourself have been moaning about it for 10 months is mind boggling.
plus the fact that Bucs made playoffs was a successful year. I much rather have watched a 9 win playoff season than a 4 win trask season.
great get a top 5 pick where there’s a 90% chance we get a Zach Wilson, Trey lance, or Bryce young; 9% chance we get a Trevor Lawrence or Kyle Murray (are their team’s perennial playoff teams?)
and than that 1% chance we get that guy you are talking about - Mahomes, burrow, Allen, Jackson
enjoy the ride!
Newsflash: I'm not, nor ever have been a "tank" guy. I think Trask is at the very least starter material and would have won at least 9 games with this team also, but would have likely started out slower. But a forward looking organization would have been willing to risk him sucking, knowing that the consolation would be high draft picks. You don't try to prolong your relevance by bringing in a crappy journeyman QB to get you to the playoffs again. You do a soft reset by seeing if your drafted QB can be the guy. If he is, and you happen to play a game or two in the playoffs, that's a bonus and you know you can focus on the other holes in this team.
The fact that you think Trask would only win 4 games after the way he played against the Jets' defense in the preseason is mind numbing. I think the floor would have been 7 wins and the ceiling would have been around 10, mostly due to the weak schedule (which people like you seem to forget about when judging the shit performance of number 6 in 9 games this season). I can't help that you can't evaluate QB talent worth a damn.
preseason games. Lmao.
think Trask is at the very least starter material and would have won at least 9 games with this team also, but would have likely started out slowe
Total respect for actually stating Trasks capabilities and if that’s what you believe then it makes sense FOR YOU to want him over Mayfield
I just depart on “forward looking” because the 2023 Bucs are 100% win now because of Bowles and because the GM’s role is to support the HC .. until the owner say he’s gone

Based off what exactly? His college tape where he was always considered a 3rd or later round pick? He was the Arians slow tall QB and that is the only reason he was picked over Levis or Zach. Levis has been bad and Zach is a bust. When Baker played without any skill position starters yet went 8-9 and followed that up 6-6 with starters compared to Trask's play? That he looks good standing on the sidelines with his hand in the collar of his pads? Please give me what exactly you saw that convinces you that he can at least be as good as Baker, and using Baker as the reason is not a reason.
Before you try to say why not, that's like saying that girl there may be a better gf because while I wife has a great personality, all my friends and family love her, she is a good person and partner. But that performance in bed? Inconsistent. Let me dump her and go out with this one because scoring is all that matters. She is great in everyway but you score inconsistently
Yeah I don't see Penix getting to us... and as a Ducks fan I love what Nix did... but I'm not sold on him in the pros.
But he is very accurate and reads defenses well... he's not as mobile as people say...
He'd be a good 2nd round pick but he won't last that long.
So I think we are stuck with Baker, guys
I dont know anything about Penix. He could be the greatest prospect since Andrew Fugging Luck. I just cant get over a QB guy named Penis!><! I mean Penix. Hard pass for me!

The reason he is overrated is because why he is an athlete and he certainly flashes, but watching all his passes in several games this year I see it make be some smoke and mirrors here. The majority of his passes has the receiver squaring up for the pass thus moving laterally. When they aren't squared up to him, even behind the line, he has accuracy issues. Sure he can hit a dime here and there deep, but that could also be a receiver adjusting. I don't have the time to watch all 22s to know if that's the case. So the scheme may be making him better than he is, we will know once he is on the NFL.
That said, he seems Winston level immature. The latest showing of this was saying he wouldn't declare for the draft unless Chicago traded out of the #1 spot. He doesn't want to go to a team with such a dedicated fan bases? One of the top facilities and training rooms in the league (T1-T8 in 6 categories)? In fact on player based ranking of franchises, Chicago only gets hit for treatment of families (T-22) and nutrition (T-18th). I mean, if he gave a reason why then that might be cool, but you would rather an unknown coach on an unknown team that might be a shittier place to play and work or with a lukewarm fanbase or a cheap owner where you will never win anything or a chronically dysfunctional organization but instead pick the Bears of all teams?
I doubt he pulled an Eli where he actively talked to the Spanos family and after hearing the stability of the organization, asked them to please not draft him. He said someone in the Chargers organization leaked it. I would guess the GM so no one would say "that's the idiot GM that picked Eli Manning and traded him away in the same draft!"

By that logic draft every duck o-line.
Powers-Johnson is an elite center. Let's grab him

I've actually mocked him to us in a handful of drafts.
Stupid Gronk. Saying baker is future of Bucs
idiot only played one year with trask and his face was in Brady’s crotch the whole time, wtf does he know…..gosh
