hot rumors are that we are going to sign him in free agency.  what are your thoughts?

Positive spin: the guys numbers with the run first offense of Cleveland Browns weren't that bad.  They were better than Brady 2022 version in 2018 and 2020.  And in all 4 years with Cleveland he topped Danny Dimes contributions. When you see how Mike Evans and Chris Godwin carried Jameis, Tampa may be a spot he can get the career back on track.

negative spin:  This next team will be his 4th team since July 2022.  Not a good look

ultimately will see what the salary numbers are but definitely feel we can be more completive wit him at the helm over Trask.  Jimmy G may be more accomplished but the injury issues suggest he'd miss a third of the season.

In order for the Bucs to sign anyone, they would have to make more cap space. The Bucs, with the latest moves now have enough money to sign a draft class. There are a lot of holes to fill. Especially on defense where the Bucs are losing LVD, SMB, Dean and others. Not to mention signing an OT. The Bucs don't have enough draft choices to fill all the holes.

I'm fine with it, if it works out cap wise. 1 year deal.

Clearly the regime has little faith in 2nd round pick during a super bowl run qb Kyle Trask.

What a truly atrocious draft pick with all pro Creed Humphrey taken one fucking pick prior.

This is almost as bad as Packers drafting a 3rd rb, and a backup qb during a super bowl run.

Some will still defend Trask, as a journeyman Mayfield takes the job from him.

they still have some players they can extend or restructure.

I agree Bucs won’t be huge players in free agency but if mayfield is under $20m I think they get him

You have to be careful about restructuring, because you are usually guaranteeing more money.  Therefore, you have to be sure you want to keep those players around for a while.   As for Mayfield, they can probably get a two year deal with most of the money going against the 2024 cap. Of course the danger with that is that he could bomb out and you'll be stuck paying for him after he's gone.  He bombed out of Carolina already.

baker or no baker, it doesn't matter

we've got to reboot and it doesn't matter who throws mike his 1000 yds, rest is just work in progress.

we've got our second ring, attempt to score the third failed and it's gonna cost us few (or more) years of playoff football ... life goes on

Baker also bombed out in Los Angeles. As a starter he was 1-4 there.

to be clear, Baker being on 4 teams in one year is a concern

the optimism points

1 - young enough to revive career

2 - Trask could only dream of throwing for over 20 touchdowns in 3 seasons

3 - He is throwing to Evans and Godwin

My thoughts...

Mike Evans is going to be pissed off at Mayfield by week 5. Going to be a TON of under thrown deep passes that he'll have to bat down to avoid being intercepted. His deep ball is awful. He doesn't stay in the pocket when under duress and takes his eyes down field while trying move. Would be an epic failure to make him our starter.

I'd roll with Trask over Mayfield at this point. Brissett is worth taking a shot if any of these vet qbs.

My guess is the Bucs sign Jacoby Brisset and Drew Lock to compete with Trask.

Agreed, we all know Baker is better than Trask. Time will tell....but those that have said it was a wasted pick may just be proved right this summer. We'll see

Baker won vs Raiders and Broncos so not sure how he was "1-4".

I'm not gonna lose sleep over Baker but anything is an upgrade over Trask.

But if we wanna roll with Trask, sure why not... give him a shot. He has weapons so maybe he's serviceable

the only way it doesnt turn out to be a wasted pick is if Trask becomes a legitimate starter

otherwise, you are talking about a 2nd round pick the year after we won a Superbowl and had depth issues/injuries which hurt us in our efforts to run it back.  An offensive line, secondary, etc. would have potentially helped mitigate issues, potential higher seeding in playoffs.  He then was third string in the second year and we all know how 2022 was a disaster

so if he wins the starting job this year and the Bucs go 4-13 and then jettison him in 2024, then no, still was a wasted pick.

guys like Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott, Drew Brees, etc. were all 2nd or later picks so if the intention of our front office was to draft a third stringer and not eventual starter post Brady, then they should be fired.  But i think their intention was that he could be the guy post Brady.

would be nice to see him work out but if they sign Baker, a guy who has thrown for over 20 TDs in 3 seasons and first overall pick; i'd say Trask would be the underdog to outshine him this summer.

The odds of Trask being a long-term solution and viable starter in this league are less than 1%.

The pick is and was awful for so many reasons.

Like I've said... Licht getting Brady and that 2.5 year run if great FA signings and drafting well has regressed back to old Jason Licht that seems lost and disoriented.

He needs to kill it this draft because his last 2 have been putrid.
