think the Bucs have plenty talent on the offensive side for any qb to excel.
Except for Brady, I guess.
I would think most people look at last year and see a pretty big difference between the early offense and the late offense AND SIGNIFICANTLY the changes to the offense during the season by Canales. So, if you see that you’re probably more inclined to see last year as an evolving offense with Mayfield generally playing his best late and when it matter most.
We lost in the playoffs because of the defense more so than Mayfield and the offense. And yet there are no “we are doomed, blow it all up” threads based on the defense. Half the Red Board is on suicide watch over Mayfiekds contract lol
I mean we had younger in prime Mike Evans and not injury riddled Godwin before Brady and Winston wasn’t able to make playoffs 🤷♂️
Brady issue in 2022 was a combination of not giving the plays time to develop (not wanting to get hit), coupled with terrible play calling, and 4 studs gone - AB, Gronk, Marpet and Jensen
mayfield was impressive in 2023, followed in the goats footsteps by leading the team further than 2022.
the 2020 and 2021 teams were stacked and Brady was MVP caliber
the 2023 team was equally as talented as 2022 team and the record were irry similar sans Mayfield coming alive in the last half of games. He got better in the playoffs which was nice to see that he doesn’t buckle under the moment like a Prescott or Jackson etc
We've become so spoiled with TB12 that we've forgotten years of Winston and Freeman, who preceded TB12 (add in Josh McCown), that's the day before yesterday, i.e. Tb12. Ballerz is the best sans TB QB we've had in how long? Context, stats, And perspective.
Bucs are SB contenders because Mayfield is good enough to win a super bowl.Bucs as superbowl contenders lmao
Vegas had them at 6.5 wins last year and we exceeded expectations with our playoff success
this team is middle of the pack and I would suggest not many will pick us to win the division again next year
everyone will be on the saints and maybe the falcons depending on who they get at QB
lets see what the offseason brings but we don’t have the talent to be superbowl worthy.
😆 😆
The criticism of Mayfield is sort of schizophrenic.
The harshest critics are Trask supporters who claim that Mayfield isn’t elite, but Trask certainly is NOT elite and it seems there are no elite options.
The same critics also seem to see the rest of the offense as loaded with talent now. One would think that belief would be matched with a desire to have the best QB available now, but that is Mayfield absent some crazy trade up in the draft maybe?
Mayfield’s own inconsistency is dwarfed by the inconsistency of his critics.
Bucs are SB contenders because Mayfield is good enough to win a super bow
Would you agree that we were not SB contenders this year because our DEFENSE was not good enough to win a Super Bowl?
the defense is what held us back from beating the Lions, right?
Yeah fix the defense + run game next year this off season. That way there’s no excuses.Bucs are SB contenders because Mayfield is good enough to win a super bow

The bar is always set for that. I think that’s what keeps most fans watching. Most of us know we need a great team to compete for a SB. We’re a few pieces light, but we should be another year closer…and if things break right, at least we found a QB that can maximize the weapons on offense. So the bar is set for you, the Bucs are super bowl contenders next season. Its super bowl or bust.well, the defense was world class - just trying to put a little emphasis on the fact that that defense didn’t win a Super Bowl until the offense was capable. This defense is no where near that one. However, the sum is better than its parts. We won a Super Bowl with an old statue quarterback that was as tough as nails and won many games by sheer force of will - because he had a good cast of weapons around him and a good OC who knew how to use all of them…
Lol. Love it.
This poster is bringing the entertainment.
One won’t win without the other.
Mayfield is the missing link…or so says Todd Bowles and Jason Licht.
A lot of moving parts are involved - if we had a couple more defensive weapons - it sure would help.
Only a few watch every week to just to catch a glimpse of the backup QB - and cross their fingers that he will miraculously start. Keep that hope alive!
Silly abounds.
Just an observation
When a position is challenged by another poster, some posters reply defensively and resort to character jabs, others continue trying to share their point and back it up with stats, context, conjecture, and request for feedback. Thats the way its sUpposed to look.
My 2c

agreed.

Yeah but what about to compete for winning percentage?
(I kid, I kid)
Agree the Bucs need to fix the deficiencies on defense and get the run game going. These are the main two things holding back this team.
The interior offensive line needs improvement to fix the running game and significantly reduce Ballerz's unnecessary sacks.
I think that’s what keeps most fans watching. Most of us know we need a great team to compete for a SB.

yeah, definitely need to improve by 2, 3, 5 percentage points.
why, did you know the Saints fans felt exactly the same as we did about their season (even though they spent about $50M MORE than we did on a QB)!?
gotta do better…
Lol, you know the funny thing about this whole conversation is that two or three years ago I was you; defending Lamar’s performances with stats. I reall believed he could learn to be a NFL QB. But the reality is that he stopped growing a couple years ago. Even his own fanbase has come to realize what he is. And what he isn’t.
but like I said, I’m not really here to argue with you guys, especially not about Lamar. Just wait another season or two. You’ll see it too. Ditto Tua. Baker is better than both; another season maybe two and you’ll see it too.
Another poster whose opinion trumps stats. It's true because he said it's true. If you don't believe him, just wait a year...or two. This is going to be an entertaining offseason.
