So, let me get this off my chest while its still fresh. As memory fades and gives way to a new way of remembering, Bakers Stat line will be memorable for 2 things 1) He threw 2 Picks- the final one ending the game with a chance to send the game into OT and WIN, and 2) He took 2 2 many sacks that were likely his fault.
With that outta the way. The "prophesized BAKER CLUNKER." Well wait....not so fast. Name a player that played yesterday that had more of a positive impact on our team than Baller? Sure he had 2 picks ( I count 0.5 picks on the day-because pick 1 was on ME and pick 2 could have gone either way had OTTON FOUGHT for the ball, Baller said if there was a MUST CONVERT PLAY, GW!!!!4...I bet he woulda taken the ball out of the defenders hands-IT WAS RIGHT THERE OTTON, so yeah 0.Fugg'in5). I get it-sacks, he took too many, some, if not most were a result of his own line calls by choice- he was gambling and trying to be aggressive.
BucHarbour- At this point, our only disagreement was in regards to catchability of balls and placement etc. I wish I knew more about how football is designed so that I could do a thorough and detailed breakdown myself, Like NOBODY did in the past, my depth of knowledge is similar- I was just never educated in football 102- I know the BASICS thats it. But to my UNTRAINED EYE, I saw Ballz placed that could only be caught be the WR in that MOMENT- the ball had to be placed where it was MORE TIMES than we gave credit for last night, many hit them in the hands, and a few that the WR just needed to be a bit quicker or be in just a better spot (ran the route cleaner?). Off the top of my head, one pass was to GW!!!!4. On the replay, the Ball looked like it went THROUGH his hands, the ilusion was that he got his hands up 0.5 secs to slow. There was another to Cade Otton where it looked like the pass was behind him...but there were defenders there so he threw it where only Otton could catch it, basically at his Right knee, Otton saw it and could have caught it hand he just lowered his hands down to around his right knee area...another would be first down. PLacement to ME!!!3 on the 2 balls before the half, placement and arm STRENGTH on one of the TD passes...I didnt realize he had that much ZIP on his throws. Anyhoo, If someone could unpeel the the onion of the ball placement IN THE CONTEXT of the PLAY- I bet he only had like 5 bad passes in the game, and took 2 unnecessary sacks, and yeah....started the first drive and ended the first game with a pick, but Ill remember THE GAME that I saw with mine own 2 eyes, and Baller BALLED OUT to me. White had a nice game, CK had a VERY NICE GAME, KBRITT had some amazingly good plays, but a handful of bad ones. The middle of the D got shredded in the second half because of a few reasons (injuries, simply outplayed on some plays) but primarily because BOWLES reverted to coaching "CONSERVATIVELY COWARDLY." But even with all of that, even with ALL of THAT, had we simply had fair Referees, we woulda won that. The LIONS had more total penalties IIRC, but each time the Ref called the penalty vs the Lions it looked like he was constipated, that dude was a LIONS FAN and helped his team, I say they had 13 men on the field vs our 11- Count the Den and the REF.
Anyhoo. I recall Gruden saying the future was Bright, he was wrong, or maybe he just had the timing wrong... The FUTURE IS BALLER/BIGHTER RIGHT NOWWWWW!!!!
Ramon B 1981 LETSSSSSS GOOOOOOO BUCSSSSS!!!!!!!
The the off season begin. Lick wounds, then reforge and hold tightly to what is good and worthy, and MOVE ON from whats not WRIGHT and lets it blow away and maybe we can save a few pennies to put into the holding tightly part.
Tata for now Bishes!!!
PS: BIGGS, I gave you a duty to Bump post a post I made about running the table. Ill EAT THAT CROW NOW PROUDLY, wanna join me, CROW ACTUALLY tastes pretty good, its by learning from our mistakes that we get one step closer to being RIGHT (not Wright). Maybe next year tho...
2 Gems IMHO
But to my UNTRAINED EYE, I saw Ballz placed that could only be caught be the WR in that MOMENT
Mayfield threw many DARTS, one particularly notable because he also read the defense before it OBVIOUSLY . . Evans one on one. BOOM
His first INT is on Evans.
The second is 100% him (even with one of the receiver running a bad route)
big time qb is a stretch.
I agree, but I mean, give the kid a chance to get better, I mean imagine if he uses this offseason and comes back even better next year than he was in just the past two games. Just even AS GOOD-with just a tad more help and luck, ID TAKE THAT ALL DAY. I mean, after yesterdays game would you honestly trade BALLER FOR GOOF Straight UP despite the loss, GOOF GOT CARRIED, BALLER SIMPLY COULDNT CARRY THE HOLE THE TEAM/REFS/and EVEN The P SCHEME authored by BPHC, listen, some of it was on him... He had 5 or so bad throws and at least 2 sacks...what else, what else did he do wrong, Otton needed to fight for that ball on Pick number 2, Evans NEEDED to Fight for that Ball on int 1 and 2-point conversion. You can only re-write the book of consistency by 2 showings, then adding another at every opportunity. Thats how to rewrite the narrative. Ill be shocked if HE DOESNT COME BACK BALLER, then maybe we can revisit whether BIG time is a stretch or not. Either way, Im good, I even love the taste of CROW!!!!
big time qb is a stretch.
Yeah. A wee bit of the homer in that take.
I’m allowed to be excited. How many Franchise QB’s has Tampe really ever had….none really. We were blessed with TB12 for 2.25 years, but weve never had a Franchise lvl guy, I think this might be it!!!! How many Testaverdes, Young’s, Dilfers, Freemans, and Winston’s do we have to suffer through before we finally get a guy, OUR guy, the one that neither started here and no one wanted, during the game Collingsworth said he was destined to be a college commentator, BUT THE ONE THAT HOPEFULLY GROWS BETTER AND ENDS HERE!!!!
He was not perfect but I liked him a lot. They should bring him back. They'll obviously need to bring Mike back too. If they can do that help oline and dline out at the draft. Keep Winfield Jr. I think they can make another big push at it. I think just a lil better luck in this one we win. Some plays I'd like back but if they learn from them we could win a lot of games next year. Here's to a great offseason to the front office. It's their playoffs now.
My problem with Baker isn't that he's a gamer and great teammate. I love his attitude and the way he carries himself with the team. One of my favorite players of all time was Alstott, so I love guys with grit. My problem with Baker is that, at the QB position, you just can't have a guy who's inconsistent. Every QB is going to lay an egg 3-5 times a year, including Brady. That's fine. But double that top end number is what you typically get with Baker, and that costs you way too many wins. And while he can make reads, he tends to be slow to process through them, making it tough at times for him to get to the open 3rd or 4th guy. The faster you can scan through your reads, the more likely you are to be able to get to the open guy and release the ball before the pressure gets you. Baker can have elite games, I just don't see him with the ability to string more than 2 or 3 games together of above average play, and yet, you typically need 4 to win it all in the playoffs. So...if he can't get us through the playoffs and win a Super Bowl...kind of see my point?
Ironically, one of the biggest reasons I wanted to go with Trask was the speed with which he process his reads. I've rarely seen, in college, a QB go through 3 or 4 reads as fast as him. He also throws more accurate, and more catchable passes. In college he tend to arc a bunch of passes to drop them in like a basketball into a hoop. He had to adjust his mechanics and throwing style a little to fit the NFL, as those types of passes are easier for DB's to have time to get to. This year was great for being able to go to the playoffs but felt like a year of putting the franchise back by not finding out what Trask could be, or not, and either building around him or getting another QB to try and build around. We'll see how things go, but I just don't see a Super Bowl unless we get our defense to be elite, ala Ravens. We'll see.
I want Mayfield to work on identifying who's coming and being aware of who's hot. Those drive killing sacks where on him because his lack of attention to detail. The guy is pushing 30 and to see rookie like mistakes at his big age is concerning. He is who he is, which is a game-script QB. He needs everything to hold up in order to play at high level. Weapons + good OL protection - not the type to carry a team. Maybe he can improve on that next year, but its not like he hasn't had these issues before.big time qb is a stretch.

In addition, dude has to stop throwing every goddamn pass at 99 MPH. Evans is at fault for that first INT but he didn't have to put so much mustard on that. I've never seen Tom Brady zip throws in traffic that fast or even Jameis.
We will probably, more than likely, re-sign Baker. If we do, I hope the Bucs invest heavily into our Defense. The Bucs have proven you can win the Super Bowl with an average QB (Brad Johnson), but a dynamic, bad ass D is needed. Otherwise, a team needs an All Pro QB to get to the Super Bowl IMO...
Agreed. I'd like Jordan Whitehead back if that's possible, he brought that physicality that this defense lacks. This defense is really just a stud pass rusher away from being elite in my opinion. But the problem is you can say that about 1/2 the league because those don't grow on trees. We'll have to draft someone early and continue to develop Diaby. Even if Baker can't get us a SB, at least we'll have the team set up for the next guy to step in. Mike Evans is only getting older though so we ought to be smart on committing to a QB.We will probably, more than likely, re-sign Baker. If we do, I hope the Bucs invest heavily into our Defense. Jordan Whitehead The Secondary's version of Dlinemen Will Gholston, blue collar, lunch pail, gritty kinda players. Gholston has been around Quietly making impact here and there for years. Whitehead has a bit more splashy, he wad some bone-crunching hits.
