The only reason the Brady/Purdy comment was relevant to me was that IF that is your comparison then why the hell are you calling for Trask (and beating up Mayfield as a proxy for “bring on Trask”) all season long?
It’s why I asked in a thread who Trask supporters thought Trask would have performed like this season. He was NEVER getting in this season if his selling point was a Cinderella song (don’t know what ya got…)
As I have said, I believe Trask would have played at least as well, but probably better over the length of the season. He might have started slower out of the gate, but you saw in preseason how quickly he was improving with playing time. He reads defenses better and faster than Mayfield. You could see it in the preseason when he'd pass right through his progressions in 1...2...3 form and throw it. He doesn't lock onto receivers nearly as much, and he was clearly more accurate on the intermediate and deep balls.
Trask has an accurate arm that he has yet to show off. The thing is arm strength is medium, not sure Trask could have rifled that ball to ME!!!3 before the 2 point conversion. There was another throw that was just a frozen rope, ropes like those you see from guys like Terry BShaw, Elway, Marino, Moon, etc..most arent overly accurate, Marino was and Moon as well. Elway, I dont remember his career comp % relative to that time, but he never struck me as a razor accurate passer. Baller is somewhere between being able to throw ropes, but not quite as often or as fast as Marino or Elway. Hes more accurate than TBShaw...Baller is still finding his place among his peers, but hes bring lazers, moxie, and some scrambling. Given the available options, Ill go with Baller + some consistency and SEE for myself. As for Trask, he's my"1b" plan, I think hes got an accurate medium+ strength arm, Moxie...I havent seen it yet personally, scrambling...not sure, havent seen it yet personally. So given what Ive seen outta both thus far IM VERY COMFORTABLE with (both) (and) Baller as QB1 and Trask QB2 for now, Trask will one day get his chance, maybe even here, who knows. Alls well that ends well THO.
Sorry, typical stream of consciousness rambling of a post....
Ramon B 1981 GOOO BUCS!!!!
you all are just stupid
, and I'm going leave it at that.
Of course you are
lol
I'm not the one struggling with a simple concept. You are. Every position in the NFL, including Kicker, has had more busts than booms. If teams are so smart and can easily identify who can do the job and who can't, why do they routinely pick bust after bust? Every competent team should be getting 7 star players every year, because they should be able to find the needle in the haystack dudes even in the late rounds...right? The fact you seem to think they know what they are doing at QB better when they can't even do a consistent job for kicker, much less edge rushers, linebackers, lineman, etc... is why I said what I said. You seem to think they have some magic talisman that allows them to do what nobody else can and determine which QB should play or not. When I provide proof they don't (and the league is filled with examples) you tout has they are historic examples, and then I mention yet a couple more.
Maybe, you should pull your head out of your ass and realize the truth I keep stating, which is NOBODY knows what Trask can do until he plays. NOBODY. Anyone saying otherwise is...STUPID.
Thanks, and have a nice day.
The calculus for the Bucs FO hasn't really changed. The organization is still high on Mayfield and Trask based on what I have read and heard but the importance of upgrading the center of the OL to be able to run the ball is imperative. That will be the top priority for the offensive side of the ball this off season.
The debate on Trask vs Mayfield to me doesn't matter if the Bucs OL on the interior is still below average and the Bucs finished dead last as a rushing unit. Hard for either Trask or Mayfield to have success behind that.
There is no QB debate until there is a new OC. You don't sign Mayfield and then force him onto the new OC. And whoever the new guy is isn't going to say "I want Trask to start!" The only way Trask will start is if Mayfield isn't resigned and they draft a rookie who isn't quite ready yet.The calculus for the Bucs FO hasn't really changed. Agreed but Bowles is still the HC and he wants the team to run the ball better. And for that reason adding a RB, two way TE and upgrading interior OL is going to be a top priority.
The team would like to re-sign Mayfield but the new OC will have input obviously and Trask still is under contract. But to me this team is still trying to transition to an offense that runs the ball more than passes and it isn't there yet but that is the direction they want to go.

Adding another RB shouldn't be anywhere near a top priority.
Center and LG should be the top priorities, as it pertains to the run game. And, I would expect them to be targeted as early as the 2nd round.
Would love to add a dynamic playmaker like Sanders at TE (or even Sinnot who could be had later). But, with the uncertainty of the scheme we'll be running, not sure it's up there on the importance list.

unfortunately, the run first pass second paradigm is long past. It only exists as a nostalgic relic of football. Make no mistake, the NFL is a QB DRIVEN league, and even then, the pass rules the Run, P Ma, the current active GOAT, passes first, runs second.

3 of the top 6 teams in regards to rushing percentage are playing in their respective conference championship games.
If anything, it's more about the scheme and personnel.

actually the NFL runs in cycles because offenses are always trying to stay a step ahead of defenses So, when the rules were changed to benefit the passing game passing became the thing. But then run-based, pass action offenses came back. Defenses go more and more zone then running becomes more important.
the key is really the ability to do both efficiently because that is what keeps a defense honest. It’s also important because a defense can scheme part of an offense away. Last year teams dropped into deep zones. Evan’s numbers go down. The answer is to run it down the defenses throat and hit the TE to bring the defense closer to the LOS
great game of chess

whats mind boggling is that he talks about that concept like it’s so obvious a sure thing. The real % odds are at 2% and just not a risk the Bucs management is willing to take
At least he’s willing to say he thinks Trask OUTPERFORMS Mayfield.
Agree. I don't think the Bucs will go out and hire a OC who wants to be pass first. There is no QB debate until there is a new OC. You don't sign Mayfield and then force him onto the new OC. Wow, there’s an example of an anecdotal assumption disproven by fact. Ty DH, crow, consumed. But I counter with this. I have a feeling that when all is said and done, it will be P’Ma holding up another trophy that he won doing P’Ma things….passing and scrambling. I hope for the sake of the nfl and to stave away indifference the Chiefs don’t win again…I don’t want to enter another boring age like the Patriot dynasty in which the true championship was who got to face the Pats in the AFC championship game and in the SB, Giants were Giant twice during that time to stave off indifference- Brady would have 9 rings or more. Anyhoo, BIG QB’s win BIG Games. I’m sorry for Baltimore, as good as Lamar is he’s no P’Ma, he runs more often than he should when he should pass.
As of now, Detroit is beating the 9ers, that SHOULD BE US STOMPING THE REVENGE TOUR…don’t FORGET the time out! Then what if, but Bowles decided to go with a gentlemen’s agreement. If the Lions go on to win, the Glazers should fire him Tonight, if for no other reason than the what if, as Detroit has shown, and thus far through their game is showing…miracles can happen, but you gotta go get it, grab it by the horns…call a time out, can’t make the impossible possible without even getting up to the plate and taking a fk’n swinggggggg!
anyhoo, again Ty. The run is still relevant, but SB’s in this era are won by the QB first, defense second…times are what they are. I’m glad that the run game is still more relevant than I had assumed. I hope White grows towards his potential over the offseason. In the first half of the season it was…in,the, past…then he started being a force in the passing game and then he started running, very well in the last 3rd of the season. He’s another one to watch develop.
