Keep him. Improve the roster and hope for the best. If he regresses, plug in the next guy and move on.but because of his limitations.
He definitely has them, but what is the alternate plan?
Assume we dont sign Mayfield BUT we keep Evans and any others. What do we do at QB?
Up above, Badabing addresses Cousins and Wilson. Maybe one of them? Trask?
I'd probably go Russ if I had to choose in terms of talent. He wasn't bad last year for the Broncos but from what I've read he isn't someone I want in my locker room. Run it back with Mayfield and see if he can improve upon his career year.
I have watched R. Wilson closely the last two years and he is more than capable of running a balanced or run oriented offense. Wilson is very good still at deep passes and play action downfield. He struggles with crossers but Mayfield struggles with accuracy on crossers and midfield as well. The difference is that Wilson is far more accurate downfield than Mayfield. But I think at this point in his career that Mayfield has a better feel and ability to avoid the rush. Wilson on the other hand still can do it but not as much as he used to when he was younger.
But that just reinforces the point that you have to upgrade the center of the OL because Wilson struggled when pressure was right in his face.
Wilson is not worth the contract the Broncos gave him and he isn't consistently enough an elite QB but he is streaky like Mayfield and when he is hot he is very good and protecting the football and putting up points in the first half of games. The second half of games when Wilson is asked to do pre snap is when things go haywire. But Wilson is also very good at running hurry up offenses.
are you suggesting getting trask 4 games of playing time was better for this franchise and fanbase than the Bucs making the playoffs, winning a playoff game and having quite frankly are most successful and exciting non-brady led buccaneer season since our 2002 Super bowl. Yeah....you're only on a boat with a few other knuckleheads' there cuz
Since I'm an Engineer by trade I will help you out here: 4-7 means 11 games played (4+7=11) which means he would have had 6 games (17-11=6). 6 Games is enough to see what you have and prepare.
We went to the playoffs. It was fun. I rooted my ass off. What's the end result? We're drafting later. We don't know what our 2nd round draft pick can do and are in the position where we don't even know if we can get the FA QB back, and if we do, it will likely cost us a chance to sign a couple of the good FA's that will be out there at positions of need. Yay. And on we go. Congrats. The QB from who many of you can't remove your lips from his ass will either be back here to terrorize...errr...tease us again with his 2 or 3 elite games, or he'll move on and we'll be right back to square one at QB with no clue if Trask could have been the guy while he "plays" out his last year. That's some awesome foresight by the Bucs right there.
It would have been worth it all if the Bucs could have pulled it all off and won the Super Bowl, but I think we all know that wasn't going to happen, and it didn't. It's a Bucs life.
No one outside of Florida ever heard of Trask,,,,, and no one ever will
The GM wants Baker, the HC wants Baker, Evans wants Baker and every other player on the team not named Kyle Trask wants Baker
Apparently, only Trask Fan is unaware of ''what the Bucs have in Trask''
Irony

I'm pretty sure a lot of people know who Trask is. Just ask Georgia fans. Mention his name and they'll be haunted by wheel routes. But you like to make dumb ass comments, so feel free. This is America after all.
If he does the ^above, he’ll be the best QB in the NFC-if he can only consistently be who he was against GB, the Stinkin Iggles, and The Lions.
That would be an awesome, though unlikely, outcome.
As of today, he’s probably the 7th to 8th best QB in the NFC.

agree with the assessment but on any given Sunday the rankings are pretty tight in the NFC. Demolished hurts and lost by one possession against Goff who are both likely in that 7 better QBs - averaged 27.5 points in the playoffs
Beat Love head to head by 14 points
Purdy and Prescott better and likely the class of the NFC but there supporting cast are stacked. Prescott has proven he can’t win in the playoffs.
cousins performs great but good lord baker has more career playoff wins than him.
Stafford is the man. Getting up there in age. Won with a stacked rams team.
so to me, yes he’s middle of the pack, but on any given Sunday can be the better QB and as we experienced this year, can have success. Our most successful non Brady year in 2002 season.

I dun'have'no'crystal'Ball, I only have 2 crystal Ballz that can see what I DO. Anyhoo, win or lose...Popcorn at the RDY, ENTERTAIN ME THIS OoFSeason!!!!

Not according to his last 2 games. Comparing apples to apples and ONLY UsIng the LAST 2 games as CONtext, frame his performance for me against the current GOAT P'Ma. What were HIS Stats in his first 2 playoff games this year. Ill even add a twist- take Pa'mas single best game this season, and add that to his yardage total, completions, completion %, TDs, rush yards, etc and balance it with negative plays, sacks, INTs, penalties even if someone has the gumpChun. And Use Ballerz game vs GB as his third...same stuff. Then lets compile a head to head stat battle and we can see...3 games to 3 games head to head. I bet it'ss be alot closer or maybe even different than I thInk. Shyt, even I can prolly do that in 2 minutes but Im too lazy and dont have membershit* to these stat keeping websites ugh...Inconvenience trumps my will to be right....annoying.
Anyhoo, I bet the Epic Stat battle of 3 games will be Shocking...
Give 6 a Chance, the potential IS SCREAMING at US in Da'Face'hole. Keep him, It NEEDS no FURTHER emphasis, Keep him, bUIld arOund him and create and environment to thrIve. Then ALLOW IT TO GROW, warts and all baby!!!
We won a Super Bowl with Brady but we also won a Super Bowl with Brad Johnson.
Johnson was benched the season before he came to the Bucs, I think. The Bucs were also losing with him at the start. A Bucs team with multiple HoFers
@badabingbucs This is coming out of crazyland leftfield, but, what if Harbaugh does something crazy, and his "JJ MCCarthy is the best" comments come true and he drafts McCarthy, ...... What do we give up for Herbert.... if anything?
per your post, which didn't copy over:
exactly and some are outlandish options that would have at at 3-4 wins.
what option is reasonable and will be best for the team to retain talent that keeps us competitive.
Kirk Cousins pretty darn good but going to cost near $40M and is 1-4 in the playoffs. Shit, even Baker Mayfield has more wins than that. How will Cousins bounce back from injury?
Russell Wilson missed playoffs last two years with Denver. How would he do with Tampa? Baker proven he can win in Tampa. We'd be going out on a limb that Russell has any juice left.
so yeah, what option is better than Mayfield, lower risk to keep us competitive and is realistically available

Yeah…
I’m not going to take the time to compile the stats from that EXTREMELY cherry-picked scenario there.

you are exactly right. it's why those in the Baker camp are simply in the realistic, he gives us the best chance to remain competitive camp. Sure, we'd love a Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes, but they just dont come around often. We wont be picking high enough for a top QB, and Mayfield likely better option than Cousins and Wilson. Why even toy with it. Be different if Mahomes, Allen, or Burrow were available.
People act like franchise QBs grow on trees, yet Baker is second only to Brady in terms of successful Buc Seasons since our 2002 Super bowl run.
1. 2020 - Brady, Super bowl win
2. 2021 - Brady, franchise record wins, beat Eagles in first round
3. 2023 - Mayfield, beat Eagles in first round of playoffs
4. 2005- Simms, Bucs won 11 games but lost in first round
5. 2007 - Garcia, Bucs won 9 games, but lost in first round
6 - 2022 - Brady, Bucs had first losing season in Bradys career, lost in first round.
in terms of Herbert, i think one of the reasons Harbaugh chose the Chargers was because of him so don't think that's realistic. what would his trade value be? Would i trade 3 first round picks for him? No. But a first rounder and 2 thirds....yeah.
...... What do we give up for Herbert.... if anything?
THE FARM!!!
Hahaha, yes sir, but not dot matrix printer.. DH, I think you've been around long enough to remember the old joke about who is our next coach, and I think dot matrix printer beat out stapler.
We may need to bring back dot matrix.
