I think tonight's Super Bowl was an example of what the Bucs are going for with the duo at safety. Chancellor and Thomas, as well as the other Seahawk DBs, hit the Bronco WRs so hard and often early in the game and really took away the underneath routes and the YAC yards that Denver has relied on all season. Some of those hits probably would have been penalties in the regular season, but if Goldson and Barron can consistently hit like Seattle did tonight, it will make it really difficult for offenses to get into a rhythm.
No way Goldson gets away with any of those hits tonight. Needs to be traded/released/have salary reduced significantly.
The only thing is Earl Thomas is amazing in coverage too. With better coaching our safeties will look a lot better than what we've seen tho.

Goldson isn't as good as Thomas.Barron isn't as good as Chancellor. So no.
We have no one in the neighborhood of either of their safeties.Goldson needs to do some serious studying of Kam and how he is able to lower the boom, but is able to do so by seeing what he hitting instead of just flying in recklessly. We will most likely see Goldson get his usual 6-7 personal foul penalties along with him losing a significant amount of $. That leopard isn't changing it's spots.Barron did show flashes of good play earlier in the season last year, but didnt come back with the same fire or intensity after getting injured. Even with the improvements in eliminating missed tackles, and better 1on1 coverage within 10 yards of the LOS, he still struggled often with down the field reads and seemed to botch quite a few responsibilities. We should see at least Barron continue to improve. He has shown that he has the physical ability to be one of the best. Now its just about getting down the assignments.
I'm not saying Barron and Goldson will be as good as them, though I think Barron's best days are still ahead of him, just that it seems to be the style of play that the Bucs were trying to build. I know there were a lot of people mentioning safety being a de-prioritized position, but they were the key to the Seahawks game plan, at least it seemed to me. And going forward, Seattle is reportedly prioritizing Thomas over Richard Sherman in terms of giving a big money deal. I think the Bucs had this same line of thinking with their safeties, to get two hard hitting safeties to keep the ball in front of them and make WRs hesitant to catch balls.
The problem though, is that we have two safeties who are poor in coverage down the field. It also doesnt help that the pass rush stinks. Until Barron can make some significant improvements in this area and Goldson is bounced after next season, not sure we will see anything close to what we have seen from Kam and Earl.

I don't see much difference (if any) between the technique used by Chancellor and Goldson...I think refs use Goldson as some sort of "example" since he has the history of personal fouls.

One is legal and the other isn't. The argument that they use him as an example is silly because how did he get the personal foul calls to have a history unless he was creating personal fouls? You've heard him say over and over and over that he won't change what he's doing. He was getting flagged then, he is getting flagged now. He doesn't need to change.....
I also think that as Long as Schiano was the coach we would always be targeted. I wonder if that changes now that lovie is in place.
