So why the Cowboys? (a) One of the best offensive lines and (b) great interior line play. Why the Chargers? (a) Bottom 3rd offensive line and (b) extremely poor interior line play.
Let us start with the Cowboys:
1st QUARTER
1ST & 10 AT PHI 38 |07:13
(7:13) A.Morris left tackle to PHI 37 for 1 yard (B.Graham; V.Curry).
Play: Base 42 Nickel vs 3 Wide. Allen is 2-gapping 1 tech between LG and C. Straight up Man right into Allen's gap between C and LG.
Result: Double team on Allen. Allen doesn't get blown up, but he does get moved out of his gap by the combo block. He isn't wrecked, but he doesn't generate a stalemate. The play is made by the backside end who makes a great play down the LoS.
2ND & 9 AT PHI 37 |06:38
(6:38) (Shotgun) D.Prescott pass short right to T.Williams to PHI 27 for 10 yards (J.Mills).
Play: 3-3-5 Nickel vs Shotgun Empty. Allen is actually playing 5-tech DE between LT and LG. Pass play.
Result: This is actually a well schemed blitz which Allen executes his part. He is meant to work hard upfield and then rip to the outside toward the LT to draw the LG. It does. The LB comes on a delayed blitz, but Prescott breaks the pocket and makes a good play.

Play: Base 43 Over vs 3 Wide. Allen is 2-gapping 1 tech between LG and C. Outside Zone Left (Allen's side).
Result: Moving double team on Allen and then LG gets off on LB. Allen gets off the ball reasonably well and gets about a yard upfield. Center does a good job of sealing him and riding him down the line. Not terrible, but ultimately not enough disruption or gap integrity on this play and there is a cutback lane off of the Center's block.

Play: Base 43 Over vs balanced 12 personnel w/ Twins Right. Allen is 1-gapping 3 tech between LG and LT. Play-action Counter w/ both Guards pulling.
Result: w/ the LG pulling for the fake Counter, the LT had an extremely difficult block on Allen. Allen gets off the ball pretty well here and would have seriously disrupted the Counter (if it was a run). The LT Holds BADLY here. Both arms around Allen, pulling him as he is awkwardly out of position. Somehow no call. Or, rather, this is the NFL. Prescott boots off the counter fake and throws incomplete.
2ND & 10 AT DAL 20 |01:15

Play: Base 43 Over vs Shotgun 3 Wide. Allen is 1-gapping 3 tech between LG and LT. RPO inside handoff or Slant.
Result: No two ways about it here. Allen gets wrecked by the LG. He's a little slow off the ball. LG gets into him, punches him, Allen to the ground. Smothered.
