Steelers LB Terence Garvin's hit might have been missed by the officials, but the league will hit him hard in the wallet for this... Yes, the hit IS illegal. Punters and kickers are always considered "defenseless players" by NFL rules. The helmet cannot make contact with the head or neck area...no exception. Garvin will be fined and it should have drawn a flag.Bengals P Kevin Huber has a broken jaw.
I saw that live when it happened, I don't think he ever saw it coming.
Chris Kluwe tweeted that a lot of punters dont wear mouth guardsIf true here, I'd be shocked if he doesnt lose some teeth. They had his mouth packed with gauze.
One of the few hits I actually have a problem with. Back when I played this was a spear leading with your head like a ram. But whatever, it's football fine him and move on.
Rule or not, I dont think he should be fined. The punter didnt see the blocker coming because he was looking at the ball carrier he was going to try to tackle! He ran into the middle of the action. The blocker sees an opponents jersey, it doesnt and shouldnt matter who he is. Its ridiculous to think that a player would have to dermine which player he is engaging during the course of a play. The punter wasnt targeted outside of the action, the hit was with the shoulder, there should be no penalty of fine. Its pathetic how soft this league and some of its fans have become.
What the hell are you looking at? The guy lowers his head and spears the dude in the chin. It is about punters being defenseless it is about attacks the head in a deliberate and dangerous way,
This warrants a suspension IMO. That was completely with malicious intent. Absolutely disgusting and unnecessary. First contact -Compare that to Larry Fitzgerald with a clean and non malicious block -
Actually that's the difference between a linebacker hitting and a wide receiver hitting.... Still wasn't the cleanest of hits but I don't see how you can get it was malicious just by a one sided GIF

The picture clearly shows he is leading with his helmet. That is a launching motion. Launching is a **CENSORED** thing to do. As far as the Fitzgerald GIF it was to show how to make a clean block/hit. Nothing to do with WR and LB.
that play was DIRTY. Poor dude is going the be drinking dinner through a straw for a few weeks.
That should be a high five or low six figure fine. He led with his helmet, Fail #1. He hit a defenseless player, Fail #2. He hit him in the neck/head area, Fail #3.
I hope that guy is alright. Fracturing a jaw can't be good.

Sucks drinking dinner. I did that and they wired my jaw and I was so sick of protein shakes after a couple of weeks I couldn't see straight. I wound up getting so desperate I was drinking baby food - the fruits couldn't deal with the veggies or meat - through a straw for variety. I recommend the plums personally.

To me it looks like the stealers linebacker puts his head to the right side of the punters shoulder pads. Obviously there was contact underneath to the face because he has a Fx jaw but these things get way to scrutinized in the day and age of slow motion. With a tackle and blocking on every single play of the game 16 games on the year there's going to be these kind of hits. Fine him but don't be drama queens.
