I don't see anything wrong with the hit, though I do think its close. It's really not much of a launch, and not much of a helmet to helmet, his facemask appears to be on the right shoulder pad. And I don't care if he's "defenseless", could he have made a tackle or impeded progress? Yep - so blast him. Gotta keep the head on a swivel. It's close, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a fine, but I don't think there was such a malicious intent that some are saying. I know I'll be in the minority, but whatever.
The NFL is making rules to protect players on hits but there are easier ways to prevent injuries that players can control. I feel like it should be mandatory for players to have mouth guards and have their chin straps buckled. This would prevent so many injuries.

Dude. He doesn't have a broken JAW because he got hit in the chest. Are you serious? His jaw is broken because he got hit there, under his facemask which is part of his helmet.

It's not that far off man. At impact there is more impact to the chest. Is there impact to the jaw? Yep. But most of the impact is to the neck area, not the helmet. Edit: I already know most people wont agree with me.
I'm sorry the dude got hurt, but he was close enough to spit on the ball carrier- he had to know someone was coming. It looked like the Steeler aimed for his chest, but when you are much larger than the person you are hitting you cannot just hit a certain spot. Kickers and punters either need to pick their setups a little better or wear the same facemasks that everyone else wears.
I hope that guy is alright. Fracturing a jaw can't be good.
Sucks drinking dinner. I did that and they wired my jaw and I was so sick of protein shakes after a couple of weeks I couldn't see straight. I wound up getting so desperate I was drinking baby food - the fruits couldn't deal with the veggies or meat - through a straw for variety. I recommend the plums personally.
The bananas are pretty good too. Atleast nowadays protein shakes come in 10k different flavors.
He is NOT leading or spearing with the helmet. What are you watching?Dude just got clocked. If it were anyone else besides the poor defenseless punter, we wouldn't be talking about it.If he was so defenseless, why is he running in there?OK, know what, just like receivers, next time just take out their ACLs. That will really solve it.

If the punter was the QB and he was hit that LBer would be suspended for the rest of the season and have a fed-ex envelope waiting in his locker.

I have to agree with you on that, but I meant besides QBs.
