And I think Jared Allen would LOVE to play next to Gerald McCoy. He keeps himself in great condition, so I'm less concerned over age than for most D'linemen. In short, he works at his craft, and is a pro's pro. Michael Bennett, if he ever does manage a big contract, will immediately go to IR to repair his shoulder. Bank on it...
The reason Bennett had low numbers the first few years of his career was because he wasn't playing. You can't get stats from the bench. The reason Edwards' numbers tanked was because he wrecked his knee. He hid the injury from the Falcons and went under the knife after they signed him.
What about these guys12.51326 (contract year)8.5 (contract year)Big contract42.50Or this guy100713 (contact year)Big contract30
Both Albert Haynesworth and Marcus Jones were 1st round picks who had everything handed to them. Bennett was an undrafted free agent who had to refine his game and wait for higher drafted and higher paid players ahead of him to run out of chances. How about Charles Johnson? 06411.5 (contract year)Big contract912.5 11 Chris Clemons?032843111111.5Trent Cole? 5812.5912.51011
Some players are only motivated by money, some are not. When there is evidence that a player kicks into a higher gear in his contract year then that's a huge warning sign. Its better to be wrong and not sign a guy than sign a guy and be wrong. But the interview process and background check comes into these decisions as well.

Why do you think Bennett only cares about money? He's produced every time he's been put on the field.
Dee Ford, McCoy, The guy who appologized on Twitter, and FA DE and I'm a happy happy man.

Signing a 1 year deal with the team with the best secondary was an attempt to put himself in the best position to cash in for 2014. I have a very hard time believing that 1 year, $5M was the best offer he had My guess is that the best offer he got was not to his financial satisfaction and he's using Seattle to get it. And his plan worked.

LOL, the most idiotic argument I have seen to date on these forums. Only someone blind as a bat would equate Bennett's somewhat productive seasons to him playing for a contract. Bennett having higher production during his contract years has to do with him getting increased playing time. Did Bennett ever seem like a guy taking plays off since he was a Buc?

I have a hard time believing that at 28 yrs old with a torn up shoulder, he didn't take the best offer available but rather opted for a one year deal to set himself up better for the future. 2012 was his best season, by far, and he got 5 million out of it because that's all anyone thought he was worth. A 2nd year in a row of production and maybe he'll get more but I just don't buy that he took less hoping it would lead to someone more later. To many unknowns for that to be a smart decision.

I take back what I said before. This post takes the cake.
The choice is Bennett or Allen?Ill take Allen all the way to the bank. I dont give a crap if hes older. Allen is STILL dominant. 10 sacks for him is like putting on shoes in the morning. A-U-T-O-M-A-T-I-C. Even if the contract is shorter, I still do it. Id rather have 2 good years of Allen while we find our DE of the future than saddle ourselfs down with a big contract to an average DE like Bennett.

Yes and that is against LT's , not the RT's Bennett faces. It's not even close really . Bennett is good but Allen is another caliber of player.
By now I think every GM knows Bennett is following the $$$, until it dries up (like LAST off-season). Then he'll sign another 1 year deal, probably in Seattle, if he doesn't pi$$ them off... Jared Allen, despite his age, would be a SAFER choice anyway...
Bennett took less money to compete for a Superbowl in Seattle. Why do fans get butt hurt when a player leaves? Don't hate the player hate the game.
ok so now bennett is just chasing the money? A practice squad player that has worked his ass off to get to the level of player he is today is now all of a sudden once he gets the big contract he's waited for is now not going to work hard? Hmm... makes perfect and logical sense. Imo tho I think he works twice as hard after he gets that contract he's been told his whole career basically that he wasn't going to make the league, be a starter, get a contract, gets a one year prove it contract then proves it I seriously doubt he stops after he gets his money he will say well Im done working mine as well get lazy. smh work ethic wouldn't be something I would question with someone with that type of past. Or just maybe he signed a one year deal hoping schiano and the band of idiots would get fired and come back to tampa. http://www.joebucsfan.com/?p=106215#more-106215
The fact Bennett is willing to leave a superbowl contending team with a top tier defense in hopes of a bigger paycheck screams volumes about where his loyalties lie.IF that infact ends up happening.
Right. He took less money last year so that he could implement his evil plan to make more money THIS year. Brilliant.
I think he just wanted to ditch his dog.
