I hate some ridiculous cliches. Dont draft a rb in the 1st round. That is absurd! I like Rach White but Bijan is one of the top 5 players in the draft. Most teams the trend seems to be "have 2 quality rbs" which I agree with. Who, besides the qb, touches the ball more than any other position? This cliche I believe started with the success of the patriots back in the day with a committee approach at rb with some lesser name rbs. I agree with the trend you should have 2 very good rbs is the ideal situation. Almost every team is striving for this approach, the days of 1 stud rb are trending downwards. You dont turn down this guy if he falls to you, he will make your line and qb look better. Tandem of bijan and R white would alleviate some other deficiencies. And rookie salary is also an asset. Quality Rbs are important! We definately have many needs but in this case, BPA is Bijon is too hard to pass up. If a stud DL Jalen Carteror or OL falls I could maybe live with it..not sure an OL is better value than an elite player.
I would hate for us to draft a maybe TE at #1 or a safety at #1. Safeties just dont impact the game like they used too,,cant hit anymore. Name me a dominant safety in nfl..there arent many. I like minkah and hufanga but the position is not as integral, I would prefer beefing the DL with as many as possible,,platooning the dline...makes secondary look better. No TE and Safety worthy of pick @19.
RB is a luxury. we sucked at running last year because of the offensive line, poor play calling, and a QB that got rid of the ball quick.
we now will have a worse QB, an unknown playcaller albeit cant possibly be worse, and a hole to fill at OT. We simply can't afford to take an RB in first round.
2016 - Dallas has taken Zeek and gave him a big deal. How are they liking that deal now?
2017 - Jagaurs took Lenny Fournette. That didnt work out too well for them long term?
2017 - The Panthers took C-Mac and was a stud; yet the rest of the team sucked so they traded him
2018 - Sony Michael and Rashad Penny. Yikes! Saquon Barkley is good but potentially to leave in free agency
2019 - Raiders uses franchise tag on Josh Jacobs
i mean this is relatively recent, you are talking 3-7 years ago and players are either no longer on the team or not committed too long term. If the Bucs want to be that 09 to 19 team, do something stupid here and take a QB or RB
However, if they want to become the next Chiefs, Eagles, or Ravens - i'd hope they'd focus on needs that could help a team long-term. Throwing a hail marry pass for a QB or RB when there are many holes to fill to get back to playoff caliber is ill advised
all agree to build the trenches
hit a home run with Tristian Wirfs and Vita Vea
then had top round picks on Luke Geodeke, Logan Hall and JTR and not so much....
The Bucs aren't drafting a RB in the first round. The reason most cliches become cliches is because they're true. The fact is the shelf life for a NFL RB is short and most don't get 2nd contacts and the ones that do are usually not worth that contract a couple years in.
IF the Bucs had a championship potential roster, then maybe you take a stud RB. But they don't.
Build the trenches...draft a RB in the middle rounds to compliment White.
i mean if the choice is a backup QB (Trask) or a kicker (Roberto) then hell yeah take yourself a running back but as others have said, go with players that will be on the team in 5 years
Hard pass on any RB before 3rd round.
