I know that's a common concept given his win today but I was looking at coaches and wins as they age and his regular season win totals alone are staggering.
His 11 wins this year was his worst win total since 2009 (10 wins). He's been under 10 wins only 2x, his 1st (5 wins) and 3rd season (9 wins). That's ONE losing season, his first, in 19 years. Since 2009 this is his win totals: 14-13-12-12-12-12-14-13-11.
As a fan of another team its depressing to watch him produce 8 consecutive seasons that equal or beat the Bucs best record (2002). The Bucs have seven 10+ seasons in their entire history and Belichick has done that for sixteen consecutive years. In fact, the Bucs have only 12 winning seasons in 32 years which Belichick has exceeded by 50 percent in 18 seasons.
So its depressing to be a Bucs fan in contrast to that but very cool as a fan of football. It'll be fascinating once he retires and the secrets and philosophy start coming out (assuming he does a Bill Walsh).
More than gushing over Belichick's unreal record, I stumbled across this simple but important quote I found interesting and worth considering as we discuss and evaluate the Bucs and Arians this offseason:
"Had the pleasure of talking to Belichick once. Asked him how he always is able to set the tendency for the league and stay a step ahead. His answer was, “I look and see what teams aren’t using. If everyone is running a 4-3, there’s a lot of nose guards available.”
