I have been thinking about this. I don't know if Bill Cowher has an itch to coach again. But if he did, I would consider him the strongest candidate. Stronger than smith. Here are some reasons:We have defensive pieces. We have the potential to switch to a 3-4 or stick to our 4-3. We have some good to great running backs. Oline is a piece or two away if Nicks can come back healthy, could be a mauling unit. Cowher will want a thumb print on the front office, which he could have with no GM in place. To me this team feels like its on the brink. My one fear is switching to the 3-4 and ruining Lavonte David. Just as the jets ruined Jonathan Vilma and had to trade him to the saints. On another note, a 3 man line of gholston, McCoy and if Bowers can live up to his potential, sounds enticing. Clayborne could be a stand up OLB as he runs well. He would be our pash rush specialist. David and foster would be the ILB, just need to draft another OLB. Secondary remains the same, maybe add another corner in case Banks can't become better. Then from there build the offense.Under Cowher I could see Glennon thriving. Big Ben was a game manager before he was a good quarterback. Defense and a run game was the steelers staple. The Cowher led team drafted a lot of speed on the steeler offense if I am not mistaken. Beyond all of this, we dont need to switch to a 3-4. Bill can come in and hire an elite DC like Leslie Fraser to run the 4-3, bring in Jared Allen and draft in the trenches on both sides of the ball. We need to add speed on offense and players in the trenches. Foundation is there. What do you think?
Beyond all of that, he will make sure Revis is allowed to be Revis. I'm not so sure Lovie Smith would do that at this point.
Id love Cowher too, but Gholston-McCoy-Bowers is NOT a 3-4 DL. Theyre all ends and a 3-4. Not a true 3-4 NT in that group. Not sure if anyone on our roster could fill that spot right now.
Why is everyone so in love with the guy that has been out of the league for 8 years...that would require a complete roster rebuild to run a 3-4 and wants total control?I am being serious...why?
Being out 8 years doesnt bother me. Good coaches are good coaches. As far as the 3-4, Im not sold on it nor do I think that just because Cowher ran it before he wold run it again.
Any defensive line that has "The Force" is destined to greatness.
NO to the 3-4. It would COMPLETELY waste McCoy and David.
Bill Cowher is the White Whale in Moby Dick. We can't kill ourselves going after him. He doesn't want to coach anymore and frankly - it's a very different league from when he did coach.
IMO if Cowher returns to the sidelines, it would only take place for a handful of teams. My thought would be an organization that has more pieces in place than the Bucs. Also, I think he would return to a bigger market team like Chicago if that job became free.
The 3-4 experiment was already practiced and McCoy did not do well in it.

I dont want Cowher...but Spence would be a good NT in a 3-4. Dont limit your listing of possible NT to half our DL.

When was this?
Cowher is headed to Washington.
Cowher is headed to Washington.
I have seen those rumors, but it is counter to what Cowher has said all along...he wants TOTAL control...and Bruce Allen just did his Al Haig impression with..."I am in charge here"If true...it will be interesting...does it mean Snyder is willing to get rid of Allen?

No they just do like what the Saint's do. HC gets all personal control period. The GM is there to do the financial side only. If Allen doesn't like it he knows where the door is.
