what's up everybody? just figured I'd give what little bit of insight I had from day 2 of pads.- First thing I noticed, McCoy and a fellow DL, who I believe to be Matt Masifilio were first on the field doing some warm ups that emphasized hand technique and shedding blocks. A few moments later Steven Means came out to join them in some bag work.- Backup QB Alex Tanney and reserve TE who wore 84 came out and warmed up a bit. Practicing corner routes to the endzone. The whole time I felt myself waiting for some kind of trick pass or something from Tanney, but it appears he's all business. - Once every one filed out onto the field, The QB's and Centers worked on taking snaps under center. Martin was seen with them taking some play action snaps and sitting down for a check down in the void where between the DL and MLB's would be. this went on for several minutes until the horn sounded for team stretching officially starting the days practice. - Once that horn blew they then broke into position groups, the group closest to me was the WR's. So I focused my attention there with Our #1 pick Mike Evans. Side note about Evans; For as big as he is, compared to Jackson side by side, it's a no contest. Jackson is clearly more filled out and looks like the more imposing WR. Honestly, Evans looks like he would have to add about 10 to 15lbs of muscle to be as thick as Jackson. - Jackson led the wideouts in all their position drills mostly a teaching moment for Jackson and WR coaches to show how they wanted the drill executed. One of the notable drills here was the WR's got on one knee and the coaches would throw balls low and away as the WR's had to catch and secure the ball then roll in one motion to complete the drill. Obviously Jackson looked the most crisp.- Another drill took emphasis on a tipped ball in traffic. This was kind of a confusing/hectic drill with a lot going on. a lot of balls hit the turf here. But basically two receivers stood about 5 yards apart in a straight line while coaches fired balls into the up receivers hands forcing a tipped ball to sail behind him. It was the second receivers job to locate the ball and try to come down with the catch. - From what I saw from the WR's today It's a crowded group and if Herron doesn't tighten up in camp and shine in preseason games he may have a hard time making the 53, he'll definitely get a shot on the practice squad. But right now as I see it the group goes as follows; Jackson, Evans, Murphy, Owusu, Streeter, Hawkins, Herron, Page, Dawson, Patton.- From the positional drills the team jumped right into a quick 11 on 11 session. One thing I will tell you that is immediately apparent is the amount of zip that McCown has on his passes. When he fires that thing, it gets there in a hurry. And he's very very accurate. There was a nice seam route thrown to Jackson in between the LB's and safety. McCown hit him perfectly in stride and that was all she wrote. He took it to the house. - As you all are already aware, No Verner today. Also I didn't notice Goldson out there at all during this session. Starting in his place was Keith Tandy. Also note that second string was Major Wright in place of Mark Barron and McDougald in for Tandy. - Banks looked sharp in practice and had a couple good battles with the receivers he went up against. He has a solid first punch that you can tell gets in the head of the receivers immediately. His man cover skills seem to have improved in year two and I suspect they will only get better from here on out with the quality coaching this D has.- After the 11 on 11 session the team broke in to a special teams session. Kick off return. Fielding kicks were Page, James, Dawson, Demps, Sims, Owusu, Rainey and Streeter. There were a couple things of note in this session.- The biggest thing that was evident is Kevin O'dea is exactly what you've heard about from Lovie. He can be heard teaching after every rep. Telling his return guys to look straight ahead, find your man. Lock him in. If a player lined up too wide, he stopped and corrected them. He seems very in tune and knows exactly what he wants out of his unit.- Jeff Demps' turn came...and underwhelmed. He muffed his very first return and was the only one to do so through the entire drill. He did manage to pick it up and weave his way for what would have been a decent gain. But he can't have too many of those if he wants to stick around.- After they focused on the deep return aspect, the practiced fielding squib kicks. From here nothing too exciting happened other than a lot of good coaching moments. - After the horn blew here, the players met mid field for a water break. The players returned and went into some more offense install session. This was about it for me at practice. I was exhausted from having gotten off of work at 7am and from lack of sleep. Therefor I called it a day. - For those of you who are going to the night practice, that have yet to attend camp, I will say the biggest thing you'll notice is the tempo of the offense. It appears to be a quick hit, faster paced offense. Vastly different from what we have seen here in quite some time. You'll notice the live arm of McCown and his athleticism. This 34 y/o can certainly sling the pigskin. 20140728_124056_Zps00Daa51B.jpg20140728_132053_Zpsb3E406E2.Jpg20140728_124425_Zpsd27Ab543.Jpg20140728_123634_Zps343F3Ed5.Jpg20140728_125756_Zps5Ed006A6.Jpg20140728_120932_Zps95A6B3Cd.jpg20140728_132108_Zps3Af20E1A.jpg20140728_140135_Zps4Fce2Db7.Jpg20140728_140141_Zps9C837C2B.jpg
