For real. The Lions can't win the NFC North in a year like this, with all that talent - they'll never do it

Schwartz, Shannahan. This is what I put in another thread regarding Schiano:Before all of this (Penn State) I was 90% certain the Glazers were going to clean house tomorrow. But now they may feel they have a possible out and knowing the Glazers don't want to pay 2 coaches if they don't have to, I can almost see them firing Dominik tomorrow while keeping Schiano. No new GM worth their salt will want him as the hc so the handwriting will be on the wall: take the PSU job if it's offered or be fired under a new GM if you don't.

I disagree with that. I thought Schwartz was a good HC choice, as he was a very good DC for Tennessee for a long time. But there is no doubt he should have won more football games in Detroit.

Schwartz was an awful DC in Tennessee, he managed to put together a couple of good years and landed a head coaching job.The year before he became the Titans DC they had the #1 in the league, the year he was promoted from LBer coach they dropped to 25th followed up by...10th12th27th19th32ndThen came the 5th and 7th ranked years that got him the Lions job but overall it's shocking he even made it long enough as the DC to have those 2 good years.Those rankings are the usual yardage rankings but if you look at points allowed it's even worse, they had 3 straight years ranked in the bottom 4, he was far from very good for a long time.

Yeah, but if you look at those defensive rosters from 2001-2006, it's pretty amazing that they weren't even worse. Albert Haynesworth didn't give a shiz until his contract years and Keith Bullock was a good NFL LB, but no difference maker. If he really was a bad DC, he would have been kicked to the curb.But there's no doubt that 2007 (#5 yards, #8 points) and 2008 (#7 yards, #2 points) is why the guy was an attractive HC candidate.

The Browns enter Week 17 just 4-11 under their first-year head coach, but have played competitive football despite cycling through three quarterbacks and having no running backs. Josh Gordon has emerged as the game's best young receiver under Chudzinski's tutelage, while Jordan Cameron has crashed the top tier of tight ends. Firing Chudzinski would be madness for a team locked in a never-ending cycle of rebuilds. That being said, owner Jimmy Haslam is an unsavory character — to say the least — so we wouldn't put it past him to force an inane coaching change.
